If he comes back from this pissed off and plays like an absolutely ass hole from here on out the league hopefully unlocked his final stage
I hope Matthews tells Gary to go f*** himself for the next all star game or world cup they try to arrange.
Seriously, what does he have to lose? Not like Matthews will draw less penalties.
Whenever a leaf is up for a suspension bet the over
It’s easy money

I agree, I thought maybe a fine or at most a game. If Bergeron did that they'd have to give him 10 games. It's absolute bullshit that he got 2 games. Complete total f***ing bullshit.
I'm going to take time to cool down on this. But like others I've seen post on here, reddit and other forums about this ... I'm seriously questioning why I am so invested in watching the Leafs/NHL. The reaction that the Leafs have after this may really influence my decisions.
I was so excited when I was able to buy season tickets a few years ago, now I'm wondering if I should even keep them. I don't want to overreact, so my first move may be to just skip going for a year or really cut back the # of games I go to. But if the Leafs don't do something about this bullshit, I'm not sure I want to be their fan anymore.
And by their reaction, I sure hope Shanahan, Dubas or Keefe say something about this. Also curious to see if Matthews says anything (can he get more than a $5k fine from Gary for blasting him or Paros?). There's been a lot of people on these forums that have also speculated the best way for the Leafs to get more powerplays is to start playing dirtier. Another benefit may be the Boston effect: the dirtier you are during the game, the less shocking a suspendable act is, and you may not get anything.
Leafs could also start flexing their muscle by making it known to referees that there will be "consulting" jobs available to many of them after they retire. Hire several guys at 50-100k per year (that's for probably 10hours of work a week on average) for providing their input on how the Leafs can get more calls and get away with more. Also using those consultants to lobby their friends/people they mentored while working.
If Dubas is such a brilliant guy, I want to see something besides us eating a shit sandwich after this and saying to Gary "please sir can I have some more"
Have you read literally anything here? Nobody here thinks it's a clean play, nobody here says under normal fair circumstances it shouldn't be a suspension. In Canada we have something called Case/Common law where precedence matters. It seemed like that was the case at the DoPS (for these cross checks at least) until surprise surprise the biggest star in Toronto commits the same infraction and instead gets a much harsher penalty. It was a viscous cross check, no doubt. No room in the game for that regardless of whatever precedent some believe is the " norm".

That's the problem it's not consistent and I doubt it will be going forward. The next time a player will be suspended for a cross check is when Nylander or Marner does it in the playoffs. Parros is a scum bag and seems like he can't forgive or forget certain past events.
Yeah well he did get away with mooning that woman.no injury on the play, no history of discipline to speak of, and the vast majority of cross checks end up in a fine. f*** this league
The victim dropped the charges because the incident was less about the act and more so about feeling disrespected by Matthew's camp in the aftermath (iirc it was mainly his father that she had issues). She droppedYeah well he did get away with mooning that woman.
In today's overly touchy world how Matthews escaped any punishment at all, is either a miracle or somebody spent a lot of "favours" to get a lot of people to turn their collective heads to keep him from having to face a judge.
Opposing teams will applaud...Honestly this. You don't want to call penalties fairly against me? You want to give bogus suspension when precedent calls for a fine? Ok, well then next all star game I'll be having a strained calf and next outdoor game I'll be having a brutal migraine I can't play through. I will continue to have these "issues" until the refs smarten up their act and I get an apology for this bull shit.
So who am I a fan of there sport, best put on your thinking cap for thisThe victim dropped the charges because the incident was less about the act and more so about feeling disrespected by Matthew's camp in the aftermath (iirc it was mainly his father that she had issues). She dropped
I'm used to seeing rival fanbases exaggerate the significance of the incident because of obvious agendas but it's rare that I see the same from within the fanbase. The charge was for disorderly conduct and that seems to match the account of events from both parties. To this day I still see ppl try to play the sexual harassment angle and I don't understand where that comes from.
I'm ok with a 2 game suspension for cross check to the head. I don't want to see any of that.
I don't like the inconsistency though.
I'm hoping this awakens the beast and Matthews can develop a bit of a mean streak. Or at least have some others step up and dish some out. These guys are embarrassingly soft.
Referees don’t hand out suspensions.
