This was an ok one for me. I thought he would get fined, but it really was a tough check on the face.... "they" made an example of matthews. Some star players like mcdavid have hit to the head and gotten nothing. Not even a fine. Last season mcdavid went on that elbow to the head and nothing... so there has to be a solidarity and even it up sire. I agree on that there. I'm also ok for matthews getting a game, two is a lot, since we is losing also.... but we gon be fine and tavares gon step up. BIG TYME baby. He our capitano for life. But yeah, this was a bit suprrisingg one, since many star players have not gotten suspended.

I think some of you really need to understand how precedent is being used here. It’s not being brought up to excuse the play at all; most here seem to agree that it should be a suspendible play we don’t want in our game. In a fair league however, precedent absolutely matters and should inform decisions on the discipline handed out. That doesn’t mean anyone thinks that play and others like it belong in the league.

Um, I get it bud, just commenting on the actual incident, not the conspiracy theories being offered.

That's absurd. Dahlin's a hair from doing the same to Matthews while he's down. Dahlin moves as Matthews comes in. That really should be a factor in considering the sentence where any is merited. Like taking a hit, having learned how to absorb one.

Matthews standing up for himself...was worth the suspension. And if it's not in that particularly interesting part of Leafland, well let's hope Joe Sakic isn't monitoring the mood around Matthews post-suspension.

Frankly I never want Matthews to win the Lady Byng. I want him to use his size more. Play with a little more testicular fortitude. Combine that with his amazing talent and work ethic. You will have the best player in hockey. And hopefully someone to lead the Leafs to winning rounds in the playoffs.

If the officials on the ice don’t protect players like Matthews in these situations they either end up hurt and have their careers shortened like Mario Lemieux, or they can stand up for themselves like Mark Messier and be on the right side of drama. I rather Matthews take the nonsense suspension and dissuade garbage like that but deter future challengers. Ideally we have an even bigger monster out there to really set the tone.

Seems about right. No principle or consistency. This deserved a suspension but of all the dirty stuff I have seen, they use Matthews as the one to set precedence?

Between the DoPS being a bunch of dipshits, the biased game management refereeing, the lack balls from our coach/management team to speak out against these biases, the team's general lack of leadership and effort against the "crappy" teams that continually beat us, and the worst goaltending tandem in the league since the calendar hit 2022 ... I really don't even care about this season or hockey in general anymore.

I think the vast majority of us all agree. If that’s a 2 game suspension while taking account of player history then we’re fine with it. BUT it needs to be the same for all teams not just the Leafs. Leafs are held at a different accountability by DOPS. It’s been proven countless times. Don’t bother going to mainboards thread as 99% are trolls and have zero common sense.
