Weird thread. Let’s be realistic here, Drai was only able to tie him because Auston missed games and Drai entered the season on a crazy hot-streak. Otherwise Leon has nearly half the goals over the bulk of his season.
Nonsense

Tied at 47 a piece and you don't think it's worthy of a conversation? I think a tie this late in the season is pretty close, but what do I know?
To this point Draisaitl has played in 7 more games than Matthews has...
7 games when you score at a clip like these guys do...is a lot. As long as Matthews isn't injured or suspended, he'll start to walk away with it. Matthews has like 40 in his last 42 games or something ridiculous. He's the better goal scorer, and I'm not worried about it. I didn't mean it wasn't worth conversation when I said what I said, just that I have absolute confidence in Matty and it's his trophy for the foreseeable future

Draisaitl scored a hat trick, kicked in another assist and ended the night a -4. Watched the highlights and he was basically the last Oiler to let the goal scorer goal on at least the Dube goal and one of the Tkachuk goals. The guy is just a stats padding machine.

Why are people acting so strange in this thread? Every other post is an excuse about why Matthews might not win, rather than a confident expression about why he will.

Do we lack faith in our guy? He's friggen tied for the goal lead, with 2 games in hand and fewer games played overall. This is completely on Matthews down the stretch. He has every opportunity to defend his title.

Also, people immediately jumping to the argument of Matthews being a better two-way forward, is a strange argument. The thread is about the Rocket. If you want to talk about the Selke, I'm game, but that has nothing to do with who wins the goal scoring title. Two completely separate accomplishments.

Let's go Matty! Get 2 or 3 against Florida tonight!

Thanks for qualifying the response! The fact is that they are tied in goals, and Matthews has two games in hand. Everything that has happened to this point it irrelevant going forward.

I absolutely agree with you that our guy can get it done! Let's hope he goes nuts down the home stretch here!

Based on the fact that EVERYONE on the Oilers makes plays for Draisaitl and they dont play defense at all. Draisaitl will win. Case in point. Draisaitl scored a hattrick tonight and was a -4.

lol yea. he cheats for offense and is lackluster on defense.

what a fun game though. the flames, damn.

1. Matthews - 47 (18 GR)
2. Draisaitl - 47 (16 GR)
3. Kreider - 44 (17 GR)
4. Ovechkin - 42 (15 GR)
5. Connor - 41 (16 GR)

Matthews is a beast.

He's got 1-3 games in hand against his peers; he has missed 5 games this season; and he started off slow coming off a wrist injury. To be fair idk how many games the others have missed or if they faced injury issues. But still. 40g in last 42 games? Matthews has been hot for so long this is just his natural state.

Are you confident that he's just too strong down the stretch for Draisatl to keep up with?

Yes he has a higher GPG this season going into this remaining stretch, has two more games remaining, and the factors that adversely affected his GPG to start the season are no longer in play (namely his injury). Obviously both guys are going to need to stay healthy, so that's always a wildcard, but assuming neither have any injuries (which I sincerely hope is the case for both players)... Matthews will get it.

Hmmm, is that a good indicator, or is that a streak?

I think it might depend on who both teams play the next 18 games.

For the rest of the season? Probably not far off. He has a 67 goal pace for the past 114 games which includes games where he was playing injured or recovering from injury/surgery and missing training camp. Personally once he gets 50 I think the rest is just gravy and of course he will probably need close to 60 to win and I don't doubt he'll do that. I would rather him score 55-60 and save some ammo for the playoffs than go 60+ and shoot blanks.

Draisaitl is also shooting well above his career avg, shooting% this season and Matthews is hovering barely above his career avg. Anything can happen the rest of the way though but if you're betting on one of them Matthews is the safer bet by far.

Nonsense? You mean like it’s just nonsense that Matty is that good? I agree. He scored 41 in his last 46 games, Drai scored 27 over the same time frame.

Also should point out Auston has played 3 games since the 19th, that was Leon’s 5th last night over the same span of time. It’s helped create the illusion that Auston is slowing down, but he’s actually still scored 10 goals in his last 10 games.

I hope he gets it as well! No excuses at this point though, for either guy. Tied, late in the season, with a slight advantage to Matthews because of games in hand!

Whoever wins, I hope we don't get the nauseating excuses from the fanbase of the other guy. A tip of the cap to whomever proves to be the top goal scorer this year. It will be well deserved, either way!

The only thing that will matter at the end of the day is who winds up on top! There is only one Rocket winner, and everyone else!

Let's hope it's our guy. I want to see Auston go beast mode down the stretch. 21-23 in 18 would be something to see!

If neither misses any more games I'll say Matthews wins it by a couple.
Only concern is those last 5 games for the Leafs are going to be tough, so hope he has padded a bit of a lead by then.

The Oilers play for offense first, they get a lot of powerplay opportunities compared to the Leafs, so it's a tough one to call for me.

I still think Matthews will edge it out. He is determined to break that 50 goal mark, will do that with utter ease.
