Matthews, Marner, Tavares rankings on TSN's Top 50 Players of 2021

What Drai at #3, M Tkachuk at #25, Barzal at #34, Kyle Conner at #36 and no Nylander ?? :sarcasm:

Pettersson, Point, Eichel, Pasta, Schieffele above Marner. All those underpaid players.

Marner above Jones but nobody would trade you Jones 1 for 1 for Marner. Interesting.

I think it's a slightly strange list, but not terrible.

For Leafs, Matthews and Marner are pretty well placed IMO. Tavares a touch low I think - I'd have him above Zibanejad (had an amazing season but I'm very skeptical he repeats), Quinn Hughes, ROR, Barzal and Connor, more like 33 than 38.

Overall, worst rankings on this list is Point up at 10, with Malkin way down at 19. I feel this is pure bias with Tampa being a better team than Pittsburgh, and over-indexing on Point's recent playoff performance. Malkin is well above Point IMO, while they have him well below.

Nylander is not that respected outside of some Leaf homers...

Matthews is right there with those others in the top 4 even if Kucherov was playing.

Tavares is better than some of the guys listed in the 20's and 30's, but Marner and Matthews are about where they should be.

So you think Matthews would have been ranked ahead of Kucherov even if he wasn't injured and out for this season?
I have no idea how they would’ve ranked him, but he’s right there with those guys. 3,4,5.... no appreciable difference

Many Leaf fans have criticized Dubas for handing out those contracts only to be accused of being boomers and envious/hating Dubas because he is a young G.M.

Many Leaf fans are also just sick of the same 5-10 Leaf fans constantly bickering on both sides of the argument.

Overpaid, underpaid, doesn't really matter if they never win anything.

@Fogelhund is right, winning is all that matters.

At least with Matthews being ranked 4th this year it makes the Leafs haters all upset because they hate seeing TSN always putting Matthews in the top 10 and now the top 5.

I haven't followed much NHL news the past couple months. Didn't realize Kucherov was out for the season. Didn't Boston lose Marchand and Pasta for awhile too? The on-hiatus Atlantic division is getting pretty banged up.

Marchand and Pastrnak both had surgery a few months ago and are going to miss the start of the season.

If Tavares can play like he did in the 2018-19 Season when he wasn't injured, I would not be surprised to see him rank higher on this list before the 2021-22 Seeason.

Matthews 3-4 spots to high for now though I see him being that spot by end of the year so not much of an issue

Marner about where he should be though I expect marner to move 8-12 spots this year

Tavares about 10-12 spots to low and I expect him to be in the mid 20s after a strong year this season

Maybe Matthews would have been 5th or 6th if Kucherov was playing this season.

Since Tavares has a more proven career than Zibanejad I can see a case why he should be ranked ahead of him.

I also agree that Tavares should be ahead of Barzal, Q Hughes, Connor, and O'Reilly.
