Pretty sure it was Lemieux. When is the last time anyone has had a 50 in 50 stretch like this? Has it been done in this era?
49 in 49, all comes down to Saturday now
Unofficially. Mogilny and Neely were the other two unofficial 50 in 50 scorers.Pretty sure it was Lemieux.
Is it weird that I would take Matthews over McDavid if they redrafted?
Not at all. To be honest there is a real case for either, I don't think it's cut and dry one way or another. That said, I'm a Leafs fan so I'm taking Matthews. Is it weird that I would take Matthews over McDavid if they redrafted?
It's silly that it's only counted if you do it to start the season. Every 50 in 50 stretch should count. It's not like it's all that common.Unofficially. Mogilny and Neely were the other two unofficial 50 in 50 scorers.
Officially Brett Hull was the last 50 in 50 scorer.

It makes no sense at all. as long as the 50 games happen in a row within the same season, there is absolutely zero difference in accomplishment. As far as I'm concerned if he gets a goal Saturday he's in the club.

No one ever said this is an official run though. If we're being technical, even this run of 50 goals in 50 games won't be recognized as "unofficial". The official ones are in the team's first 50 games. But even the "unofficial" ones are in the player's first 50 games. It's not just any span of 50 games, it has to start at the start of a season to "count".
Matthews' first 50 games this season have come and gone.
It's still incredible. But this season won't get his name added to any lists, even the unofficial ones.
Ya its a very weird and arbitrary specification. What is the difference in scoring in the first 50 games vs the last 50? Arguably harder to do it in the last 50If we're being technical, even this run of 50 goals in 50 games won't be recognized as "unofficial". The official ones are in the team's first 50 games. There's no award being given out here. Matthews could have 50 goals in 50 games. It's the same accomplishment no matter which game it started in.
No one ever said this is an official run though.
That's right. But lots of people said suggested that it's "unofficial". I explained that it's technically not "unofficial" either. Re-read my post.
According to some google research, Jari Kurri in 1986 scored 51 in a 50 game span, from game 23 to 71. But that isn't listed anywhere in any discussion about official or unofficial 50 in 50 scorers. Because it wasn't in his team's, or his own, first 50 games.
What Matthews is doing is incredible, and he could get 50 goals in a 50 game span. I'm just explaining that it isn't going to be recorded anywhere. There's no master list I can find of similar accomplishments.
