I'm gonna be so sad if he misses getting 60 goals. It looked like 70 was within reach at one point

As long as he actually comes back playing the way he was before the injury, it's all good. My greatest fear is he comes back and doesn't look like himself as we've seen before.

60 goals seemed in the bag, but now…

I guess all that really matters is that he is healthy in time for the playoffs.

Take whatever time is needed, even if it meams losing the Richard and missing 60. He can hit 60 another year if he's healthy.

Wise to stsrt the backup against TB. If we meet them in the first round, they could see Matthews, Campbell, Muzzin and even Kase, a far different one they will face tonight.

Matthews at 100% for the playoffs is key without question.

Yea whatever time he needs. He has a long career ahead of him hopefully.

Even if he needs to miss the playoffs this year it's ok.

Long term health and well being is important.

I’m just glad he played 24 minutes his last game, first of a back to back against the mighty Sens. Good to rest.

How many times do they have to lie to you before you question what they tell you?
It’s an important game for the fans and it’s an important game for Tampa but is it really all that important of a game for Toronto? Why is it so hard to believe since he’s practicing and travelling with the team that they’re just giving him some extra time? Matthews and the team have been pretty clear for quite some time they have a goal this year and it’s not an individual one.

Damn, the prospect of him missing the playoffs would be a real punch in the gut. It's way too early to entertain that and he was on the ice playing with speed.

Yes, if it is the difference between his health and playoffs, obviously he needs to be healthy to be effecitve and to sustain his career.

I'm concerned it could be his wrist only because he was relying on a slapshot most recently, not his patented snapshot/wrist shot. If he is wearing a wrist brace for example, his slapshot is probably near optimum but he won't have a wrister.

Regardless, get healthy for the playoffs. If he can go, he will go, even if it's only 80%.

Further to my opinion, this is a reminder why Clifford and Simmonds should wing a line with Blackwell this playoffs. No opponent should be allowed to lift a finger to Matthews without consequences.

It's neanderthal thinking, but the league come p!ayoffs especially is a neanderthal league. Sadly.

Boys, everyone step back from the ledge. It should be no surprise the Leafs are keeping their cards close to their chest on this one. Probably a nagging injury they don't want to snowball, so you give Austin a few days.

Guys are acting like it's been weeks already ahaha. Relax, try to enjoy the regular season until playoffs are here and the games matter again.

....having said that if he misses the rest of the regular season....then we should be worried, regardless if he's dressed for game one. Need him sharp and dialed, not coming off a 2-3 week hiatus.

You can never trust this franchise, they do nothing but lie.

Every time they say minor injury day to day Matthews is out for several weeks.

When he comes back he doesn't even look 50%.

He usually ends up needing physio or surgery in the offseason.

These liars will put on charades like bringing him on the road trip to keep up their lies. But only fools fall for it.

Matthews is done for the season. He'll be 50% or less in the playoffs. If we win it'll be a Stamkos in Tampa type situation.

Really pathetic way to end the season. See you next year Matthews. Next season Matthews should be played 40 games max. He clearly gives Zero f***s about individual accomplishments. Need to keep him healthy for the playoffs.
So you prefer the Burke and Nonis era where they give away everything. Leafs handle this perfectly and Matthews is no exception.

They said it wasn't anything to do with his past injuries, which makes it almost certain that it relates to his past injuries. This team does nothing but lie when it comes to Matthews.
You really are the king of backwards logic. The way you are reacting to this tells me Leafs are doing the right thing.

So to be clear. Your belief is that he

Somehow injured his wrist AND shoulder
He won’t play until the playoffs
If he does he will be at 50%

And have surgery in the off-season.

If he comes back Saturday, the leafs play again Sunday. Maybe they want to be extra cautious and give him a couple more days off before a back to back… who knows.
