I’m not worried. Management even acknowledged its minor and could probably be played through but that they don’t want to risk it. We’ve secured our playoff spot so it’s better to make sure he’s healthy come the post season. It also helps that guys like Nylander and Marner have looked really solid the past few stretches without him.

Yeah honestly we don’t know for sure either way but there’s no reason to jump to the worst conclusions. I think he will get a few games in before the playoffs and be good to go. Not sure if he’ll play Thursday but I would rather him sit out until he is 100% anyway.

Apologies for the low quality but wanted to get as much of Keefe's answer on Auston's injury in the clip. BTW, Keefe's body language is not good. He's swaying like he's on a ship at sea when delivering this answer.

maby hes gotta take a crap?

i think thats some next level over thinking. Auston looked fine skating and shooting during practice yesterday Keefe has already said multiple times if it was playoffs, hes playing. give him a few games off to get 100%

I get it everyone. It’s not easy being a Leaf’s fan.

Everyone take a deep breath and don’t panic.

The video showcasing Matthews at practice is a great sign. He has time to rest and heal.

Playoffs is the most important, if he needs to rest until game 1, so be it.

Elite play in the playoffs > 60 goals.

Historically the Leafs have been very cagey regarding Matthews health whenever there’s been an issue. I don’t have reason to be overly confident that everything is okay until he’s on the ice again in a game situation.

I’ll only worry if he’s travelling with the team but still ends up not playing. That’ll just show that it’s a “who knows?” situation

I hope he plays against the lightning

Maybe, he has a head injury? Who knows?

if that was the case he wouldnt have been wearing a normal practice jersey and would have been in red like Kase. but who knows, just my thinking.
I understand your thinking. If he did have one, would the Leafs put him in red? They don't want anyone on the outside knowing what his injury actually is.

Some are saying he's fine because he looks fine skating. He can shoot it. What does that leave? His head is something he could do everything he can normally do. Not saying it is his head, but he wouldn't look any different if it was. Head injuries are really mysterious. You can hit your head, in a minor way, and suffer severe issues from such a minor bump. You can smash the heck out of your noodle and be just fine a few days later.

Maybe, he got hurt a few games ago? Maybe, in practice? On his off-time? We know very little. Keefe has poo-pooed this injury leading most everyone to believe he'd miss just one game. Now, he's missed two, and stated he's not sure what lineup will look like on Thursday. He's not saying Auston will play Thursday, as of last night.

Some will believe he's fine, regardless. Some will believe he's really hurt badly, regardless. I simply don't know either way, but missing two games and potentially a 3rd, per Keefe's uncertainty about Thursday, starts putting more weight on it's more than minor.

Pretty much this. I'm cautiously optimistic that it's minor, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we don't see him the rest of the season

Hockey gods f***ing with our minds once again. We already have first round demons surrounding this team. Might as well add that our best player might not be at 100% come playoff time. Not panicking but its just shitty luck.

Whatever it is, it seems like we have enough depth to dig in, allowing "it" to take as much time as is best for our playoffs chances.

Might cost him the MVP but of course he can't go out at less than 100% or they risk losing him for relevant games

But he doesn’t look fine skating though. If you watched the sens game he was not skating with his linemates at all. He would fire the puck up and marner and bunting would skate after it and he would he no where to be found.

It was pretty clear something was wrong last game. I commented in the gdt that he wasn’t explosive.

Probably just a strain that he is letting calm down.

I would sit him another week to be sure he comes back healthy and rested .. then give him a couple games before playoffs to get his hands back .. who cares about anything but da Cup

According to his history of injuries, the only one he hasn't had is a "middle body" or "lower body" injury. So that doesn't really narrow it down much.

at his point we don't even know if it's a bodily injury. could be spiritual?

Maybe, he has a head injury? Who knows?

first off they said it's something he's never had before, that rules out concussion

second if he had a concussion do you think they would put any player, let alone the franchise player on a plane?

think about it, thank really hard about that one

he looked great in practice and he was smiling too. didn't look like anything was bothering him.

muzzin however looked in rough shape.

but that's just off a very brief clip

Good catch by you.

I'm just about done re-watching the game and I'm glad you noticed this as it is true. He is not as engaged as he often is. Had one hit that game, and a block. He's floating around like often draws the ire of the coaches for 88.

The practice video is what I was referring to with him Muzzin and Kase.

He did hit a stick on his shooting motion in the first minute of the 3rd period trying to fire the puck. Haven't seen much of anything else yet, but he was floating around long before that shot attempt got interrupted.

Muzzin has been playing with his head down a lot since coming back and then roaming out of position once he’s been taken out of the play with a turnover. I’m nervous he’ll get tagged with a check and we’ll have a Lindros in our hands. He just seems like a guy who could use the Shea Weber treatment and just go into quasi retirement for his own sake.

putting him on robidas island is probably best for both parties long-term at this point.

unfortunate that we didn't exploit this situation cap-wise at the deadline, but i'm also glad the team acted with integrity.

I think you might actually be onto something here.

Sprained ankle possibly?
