Lol some of you guys need to seriously chill. If the Leafs had announced Matthews (or whoever) was going to take a couple games in the last stretch here to rest before the playoffs, no one would have thought twice about it. Makes sense, the team is in, be fresh. The introduction of a minor injury shouldn’t be any different. If the games really mattered now he’d play, but why wouldn’t they take some time to rest a minor ailment

Anyone suggesting this is bigger than the basically nothing we’ve been told is talking out their ass.

60 goals, the rocket, those things are cool and all, but the playoffs should be and clearly are the focus for Matthews and the Leafs. And there’s still a great chance both those things happen
Personal stats are not a priority, nevertheless I do believe this is not a minor thing. If he was healthy he could still rest playing reduced minutes. Being only 4 goals up in the Rocket race, it would be almost Babcock level, scratching me in back to back games under the guise I need rest for the playoffs.

Again there’s currently no reason to suggest it’s anything other than minor. I’m sure Matthews would love to win the rocket again, but he wants to win in the playoffs more. Resting a minor injury in game, and resting it outside of playing are very different things. All this tells me is Matthews has his priorities in the right place. He’s not sitting out because he’s being told to. He’s sitting because he believes the rest will put him best position to succeed where it matters most to him

If, and I mean if Auston loses the Rocket… so, Leon, that’s the year Matthews missed the last 3 weeks of the season, isn’t it?

and he was leading by 4 goals when he sat?

I find this confusing.
Yeah he definitely looks like he's labouring through something lower body. Looks like when he tried to pivot hard to the net something was bothering him.

Muzz groin never healed. We might be stuck with him for 1 more year. But he might be toast.

Soft tissue older. When he turned the one day there was nothing there

i mean whatever if he's seriously injured then he goes to robidas island. i don't think muzz would want to risk things getting further aggravated either. but if he's fully recovered then he could have a bit of a bounce back year (can't go much lower than this past injury riddled season).

Anyone suggesting he'll be just fine is doing the same. All we know is it is a new injury he's never dealt with before. No track record to know how he'll rebound from it.

Will he be back in the lineup soon? Probably. Will he be compromised over and above the typical..."everyone is dealing with something at this point in the season" kind of a thing?

Given the secrecy regarding this injury it lends itself to speculation in all directions. To claim one direction of speculation is the correct and true path is misguided, in my view.

Is this going to hamper him in the playoffs? Is it something that can be easily tweaked? So much we don't know so speculate away in any direction of your choosing.

According to his history of injuries, the only one he hasn't had is a "middle body" or "lower body" injury. So that doesn't really narrow it down much.

maybe he injured his genitalia which could be listed as middle body i'm guessing

Alright, some of you need to chill. Whatever Matthews has is minor, and probably not lower body because his skating this morning looked just fine. Muzzin, on the other hand...

I'm betting he's back for Tampa on Thursday.

With Muzzin throwing those F bombs, I thought it was his mouth that's problematic...:sarcasm:

there is no reason to believe it's not minor

I'm happy to see that Florida is stacking their first line Giroux-Barkov-Huberdeau for sake of points I think. I see no benefits of chasing personal or team achievements before playoffs. Seems like a distraction.

No harm in having fun before the playoffs, in almost all physical activity you don't shutdown completely until a couple of days before your event.

Apologies for the low quality but wanted to get as much of Keefe's answer on Auston's injury in the clip. BTW, Keefe's body language is not good. He's swaying like he's on a ship at sea when delivering this answer.
