Your need to exaggerate everything belittles the tortured point your making.

Just answer the last question, worried about injuries or our young players getting tired weeks out from a playoff series?

If it is injury, sit them out completely, if it is them getting tired, not sure why you think they'd be tired in 3 weeks.

I am assuming that our sports science team has a better grasp on how to get them ready for the playoffs.

Even if it's a minor thing, I say rest him the next 4 games, then get him back in for game 81 and 82. Hopefully he gets to 60. But much more important is being fully healthy for the playoffs.

I'm already concerned at a level of pure horror that the "playing through injuries" excuse is being peppered up if our stars suck in the playoffs again...

While we have no solid information on what´s going on with Auston, i hope it´s more precautionary than anything else.
Whatever it is, he needs to be 100% for the PO´s. That needs to be our only focus.

I hope he returns to the ice quickly, it would be amazing for him to get 60 goals in the regular season and regain momentum before our PO battles start.

And the next three games are going to be tough, not to mention a back to back.

“We’re not just resting Auston in this case. He’s got an injury,” coach Sheldon Keefe clarified. “It just speaks to the fact that we’re looking bigger picture here.”

With a very busy schedule coming up to close out the season I would be surprised if tonight is the last game he misses before the playoffs.

The Leafs org likes to undersell/downplay injuries. Hearing this is minor gives the Streisand effect for me. Keefe has been asked, twice, about this injury and will not disclose if it's even upper or lower body.

I’m ok with Keefe shutting up about the severity of the injury and not disclosing where it is. Last thing we need is someone like Perry or Bogosian or DeBrusk or Marchand trying to aggravate whatever it is come playoff time.

That said, can’t say I’m not royally pissed off at the circumstances. 2 away from 60 and his body is failing him again.

Such bullshit being a fan of this team. Always something right before or at the start of the playoffs.

Kadri suspensions, Tavares injury Game 1 last year, Matthews playing at a Hart level and then injured just before the playoffs with a “minor” injury. I just hope he’s 100 percent before the playoffs but knowing this organization and how they downplay injuries, I’m worried.

Hope we don’t find out it’s something that requires surgery after the playoffs.

The only upside is that they're bringing him on the road trip, which they would not be doing if they didn't plan on having him play. Hope god it's nothing related to his past injuries.

They do this every time Matthews is injured. They lie and say it's minor and day to day but he ends up missing a dozen games.

I don't think he will play another regular season game. If he plays in the playoffs he'll be at 50% and more there for moral support than making an impact on the ice.

You can never trust what this franchise says about Matthews injuries. Fool me once...

My prediction was right. Drai will be the only player to hit 60 and will win the rocket and hart.

This Matthews injury isn't even new. The last three games he played you could tell he was severely injured, those were some of the worst games in Matthews career. Even if he comes back in the playoffs, which he won't, he'll play at that level.

edit - ok, overreaction, but I don't trust this team's reporting of injuries. I understand why they do it but I don't have to trust them.

Severely injured?? You could tell that when there was no mention or hint by anyone until he was pulled for the last game? Worst games in his career??? Geez he managed 3 points in his last 2 games too. The injury isn't even new?? So he's been severely injured while getting a goal a game? Holy panic level Batman.

idk man look at this team's track record with reporting on injuries, particularly to matthews. it's always so cagey and dishonest. which i understand from a competitive standpoint but as a fan you can take that into account in your assessment.

I'm disappointed to hear he's having to miss yet another game. I'm definitely not buying into the, "Oh, it's only minor". Yeah, that's a bunch of BS if I've ever heard it. Matthews has looked rather sub-par compared to his elite standards, I knew something was off. He's looked sluggish, his timing has looked extremely off.

Why does this always happen to the Leafs every season?

Tavares minutes into game one, now Matthews with mysterious not-so-serious injury, but missing multiple games because reasons. Yeah, that's bullshit, just downplaying the severity of it due to competition, nothing else.

This sucks.

I hope he’s back for the panthers game……I’ve got 4 tickets center ice row 8….ugh

Though its hardly uncommon for guys to take their foot off the gas when their team is a lock for the playoffs. Guys aren't going to be going hard 100% of the time when the most important games of the year are only a few weeks away.

Lol some of you guys need to seriously chill. If the Leafs had announced Matthews (or whoever) was going to take a couple games in the last stretch here to rest before the playoffs, no one would have thought twice about it. Makes sense, the team is in, be fresh. The introduction of a minor injury shouldn’t be any different. If the games really mattered now he’d play, but why wouldn’t they take some time to rest a minor ailment

Anyone suggesting this is bigger than the basically nothing we’ve been told is talking out their ass.

60 goals, the rocket, those things are cool and all, but the playoffs should be and clearly are the focus for Matthews and the Leafs. And there’s still a great chance both those things happen
