Prospect Info: Matthew Tkachuk or PL Dubois

Edmonton might make our decision for us. Just saying.

I love both of these guys but I like Dubois better.

Dubois for me. Tkachuk will be a very good complimentary piece of a top line while Dubois has the ability to drive a line by himself.

Tkachuk reminds me of Andrew Brunette below the hash marks at least. He's a better/quicker player overall but very similar in how they score goals and come out of battles with the puck. Brunette was a key part of many successful lines during his prime and consistently racked up 50-60 points. 50-60 points is nothing to scoff at...would be Top 4 on pretty much every canucks team since I've been following.

Dubois definitely flashes glimpses of Jamie Benn which is too hard to ignore. Even if he doesn't hit that ceiling he will still be one hell of a player.

The remaining OHL playoffs and mem cup (I think London will beat Niagra) will play a big part in who we select in the draft.

All the buzz over the last day or so about Juol or Tkachuck is making me feel really really good about what we will get at #5. Like really good. I know some think Dubois might fall to us and that would be the fantastic option but almost on the same level and who knows what the future is maybe Juol or Tkachuck are some of the elitist talent. Im very excited now about #5

I think the key to success for these players is letting them develop and immediately give them a top 6 role. No starting on the 4th line ******** lol.

Dont think Monahan played 4c for too long.

Agree with the Benn comp for Dubois. Also got flashes of Hossa watching him at the TPG.

Brunette is an interesting (and very good) comp for Tkachuk. People may initially dislike it but Brunette was a very effective scorer on some very weak offensive teams (esp Minnesota). Similar size, similarly just an 'ok' skater (Tkachuk probably a touch better), and beasts with the puck around the net and on the boards. Also seen as more of a 'complimentary' player but definitely a very effective one. Best comp I've seen so far I think.

Can we make this a poll?

Both are great prospects. Inherently Centre is a more valuable position than LW and I think you make the pick based on if you believe you already have a player that can become a true 1C in the future if he is playing with Tkachuk.

Tkachuk - Horvat - Boeser
Baertschi - McCann - Virtanen

or do

Baertschi - Dubois - Boeser
??? - Horvat - Virtanen

I think Tkachuk is the way to go because he fills a need going forward.

We're talking 3-5 years down the line and things usually don't work out so cleanly like that. Right now McCann is close but Horvat is the only sure fire NHL center, and we don't know if he'll land in the 1st/2nd/3rd line capacity. Take Tkachuk if you think he's the better player but you don't pass on Dubois because you think Horvat and McCann could have the 1/2 center spots locked up.

I'm flip flopping as well and I know it's just one game, but I was at the top prospects game and Dubois was easily the best player on the ice. Tkachuk had some flashes but Dubois was very assertive and created plays on his own. I think he has more potantial to be an all around game changer in all three zones, whereas Tkachuk looks like he'll be a finisher from below the hashmarks and pp specialist. He'll score more goals but I think Dubois will make a bigger impact. Can't go wrong with either one. Tkachuk with 16 goals in 14 playoff games lol...We'd have some serious finishers with Tkachuk, Boeser, McCann and Horvat. Hopefully Virtanen get's his shot to what it used to be.

Tkachuk's board work is already good... If he learns from the Twins he'll be even better.

I think right now Im at a point where I don't really care if its PLD or Tkachuk. I don't foresee us having a choice between the two, so whoever is available out of those two Im OK with.

Like dubois by just a bit..tkachuk is good pick as well.

Have a feeling edmonton might trade down and the team trading up to 4th will take dubois..ie montreal

I go with Dubois
Really warming up to Tkachuk now that we may take him and I've seen a bit more of him

Really either one is great

Your Preference- Pierre Luc Dubois vs. Matthew Tkachuk (Poll)

This choice will be one that will be debated through the fanbase up until and even after the draft.

Many people have expressed their opinion but now we can put them together into a poll and see who the fanbase favours.

I personally favour Dubois as I love his silky smooth hands and crazy hockey IQ, but Tkachuk would also be great on Bo' left wing.

After voting please explain your own reasoning below.

How would you rank Tkachuk and Dubois with the two Sam, Draisaitl, Drouin.

Just curious.

If they are the same draft year, for me:

Reinhart
Draisaitl
Drouin
Dubois
Tkachuk
Bennett

With this said, I have totally been flip flopping between Dubois Tkachuk because I really like both players and what they bring to a team.

I prefer Tkachuk. I think part of that is not being very familiar with PLD. I think though that if Benning has the option, he will pick PLD. That's exactly the type of player he seems to covet.
