Who do you think will be the bigger impact player in the NHL, and why?

Torn between the two who is the best forward in the draft class. Beniers a nice two way center who is a true center, or Eklund who is more electrifying but as a winger.

Who do you guys think will be more of an NHL impact player?

Eklund has more skill, while beniers just seems more content as a two way man.

I think Eklund is more skilled

Indeed. Beniers is probably a bit more mature when it comes to physicality and two way game and he has the advantage of being a Center. Having said that, the huge skill gap will be difficult for him to overcome. For that reason, I think Eklund will go 3rd, Beniers 6th or 7th.

I would bet a decent amount Beniers and Guenther are the first 2 forwards off the board.

You know better than Bob McKenzie who talked to actual NHL scouts and had them at 2 and 4?

NHL teams love players that are easily projectable like Beniers and Guenther.

His final ranking isn't out yet. Beniers was invisible at the WC and Guenther shit the bed at the WJC18 while others played a great tournament. Expect McKenzie's final ranking to have a different look.

We will never know but i belive it would be harder to decide if Eklund had played WC. He was the most skilled player on his team. A jack in the box player.

Eklund might put up some ppg seasons while providing good defensive play. Beniers could become elite defensively and provide about 60 pts.
It's a bit dumb to put "ceilings" on prospects but if both fullfill their potential my guess is that we could debate this in 2035 without a clear outcome.

Eklund has more raw talent, however he's also more "boom or bust." I honestly think in 5 years time Eklund could either end up the best player in the draft or towards the lower half of the Top-10 or 15. Berniers is more of a "safe bet" to be a solid, impact NHLer but he lacks Eklund's top end.

I'll throw two examples out there...

1. Would you rather have O'Reilly or Tarasenko?
2. Would you rather have Marchessault or W. Karlsson?

I don't think either of these kids are going to end up elite along like the lines of McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews, MacKinnon, Pastrnak, etc. but Berniers can likely be an O'Reilly / Marchessault type of player who packs his lunch pail every day and does everything you need to win, while Eklund can be the more flashy, dynamic, skilled player.

I guess there is a chance Eklund ends up another Kane, or even Marner, but I'm not banking on anyone in the draft reaching their levels.

Beniers is going to be a far better skater than ROR. Some have compared him stylistically to Toews, others to Bergeron. He might never have the special intangibles that they have, but he's got good size already, great wheels, a great motor, and a willingness to play both ways. If the team that drafts him doesn't rush him, he could be the backbone of a team for a long time. I think there will be a temptation to rush him into the league in his first year, but I hope they don't.

-- I don't see much bust risk at all with Eklund. He's just so well-rounded, and thinks the game so quickly. Everything points towards translatable skill. I spend more time wondering if he has much of a high ceiling, if he's just going to be a sharp 55 pt winger.

-- Marchessault is the lunch pail guy and Wild Bill the flashy one? I don't think so. Both are lunch pail, and most of Karlsson's value comes from being the best possible meat and potatoes center. He pushes play all over the ice and just outskates opponents. I think part of the reason "Wild Bill" is a funny name is because he is a super responsible Swedish guy.

Beniers. Not even close for me.

Had Beniers as my #1 overall player right up until about a week ago. Absolutely love the kid and see a lot of Toews in him.

Eklund is outside my top 5
