Matt Rempe needs his agent to contact the NHLPA and have the union file a grievance.
He is being treated differently from other players.
If the NHLPA refuses, then Rempe’s agent needs to file a lawsuit against the union for “lack of representation”.
This is a winnable fight: Union shows the arbiter pass player incidents and league response and then shows Rempe’s actions and the league response.
Matt Rempe is being denied his right to earn a living.
This is a legal matter. Not the time for him and his agent to cower and play nice hoping that the league will take that into consideration moving forward.
These actions should have been initiated last season after that ridicules 4 game suspension.

It's also interesting that both the WHL and AHL have managed how to survive with him getting even a lot more ice time and the NHL can't.

DOPS is a joke but it always has been.

I agree. They are basically threatening his livelihood and not in a fair or transparent way.

Funny that Larry used to rightfully troll the Pens media who would always stick up for Cooke, and now watch him become them.

8 games for a play with no injury? I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before

I would expect he'll appeal. A suspension like that for no injury on the play is unprecedented. I know of no other suspension anywhere close to that. The message I get here is that part of his sin is his size and it might even be there are some with power who are setting him up to be banned from the league.

Chris Simon got 30 games for stomping on Jarkko Ruutu. Ruutu was not injured on the play. Simon was also a repeat offender.

The next suspension will be longer for repeat offenders 4 games -> 8 games -> more. If Rempe does something similar again suspension length will hit double digits I'd guess.

The NHLPA executive board skews pretty young, although it does have guys like Tom Wilson and previously Jacob Trouba on it (I don't know his status after the trade). I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the younger guys aren't particularly sympathetic to Rempe and his situation.

The NHLPA has the duty of fair representation but that absolutely would not mean they'd have to file a grievance on Rempe's behalf, though they could presumably after the appeal.

Matt Rempe looked straight ahead as Miro Heiskanen read his victim's impact statement. Rempe was silent except for clearing his throat a few times, as Heiskanen detailed his difficulties sleeping and carrying out normal, daily tasks.

"My hands still shake when I try to pour myself a cup of coffee. I spill it all over," the still-distraught Dallas forward said. "His face, laughing with his mouth contorted, is the first thing I see when I close my eyes."

Rempe was led away in handcuffs after the sentence was handed down. He appeared to say sorry to Jonathan Quick and his family who were in attendance. The Quicks are Rempe's billet family this season.
