You can't take back what you said Doc. Luke is gonna get your traffic cone post tattooed on his arm and go full beast mode.

What was the reason he went out? Shoulder?

Shoulder surgery. Not shocking.

I just had shoulder surgery a few months ago and the timeline they gave me was ~6 months from date of surgery to playing any type of full contact sport, so this makes sense if it's at all similar.

I think Greene is done honestly. I love the guy, but I'd like to see him retire after this year and take a coaching position with the Kings or something of the sort.

I didn't even have surgery and had to do six months of physical therapy. Lifting 1 lb weights was so hard and so depressing. Couldn't play hockey for almost a full year. Still fat.

Can't help but wonder why the '14 win made Lombardi make sentimental and naive decisions. Extending Greene was his other mistake besides not breaking free off Richards' contract.

All the best to Greene. Hope he regains his health soon.

Eh, he's been playing garbage hockey for a long time on two awful teams. Let him prove me wrong and only then will I bestow upon him the honor of turning on my computer and typing up a positive comment for him on HFBoards. It may read like, "Schenn!!!! Not bad, Lombardi." Followed my some dumb gif.

We'll never know.

Greene should have been given a one year deal similar to what Penner got after 2012, if he passed then you just move on. Greene still had some value but the problem with a guy like Greene is the lack of mobility, and once he lost that step with age/injury he went from a #5 d-man to a fringe healthy scratch type.

The Richards one I simply have no idea. It was like risking $500 to win $5

Can't understand why people are still bemoaning '14 roster decisions when DL has gone out of his way to clear them up and then some.

I also don't see how it isn't clear why DL acted emotionally in locking players up, he thought he was locking up the core of a 2 cups in 3 years team long term.

Despite all those 'handicaps', here we are.

It's one thing to be critical of these decisions but why the hell some are hanging on to them I'll never know. It's like people are secretly rooting for DL to fail to validate their issues with him.

Well this is a Matt Greene thread, one that could morph into a Matt Greene retirement/LTIR thread. So ofcourse it's relevant to discuss his contract.

And the cap does make things sucky, we've learned this from the NFL, it's a shame that two positive moves for the Kings roster have been one guy bringing drugs over the border and another suffering a possible career ending injury.

Sure, but looking around the league, especially given the situation and the organizations devotion to loyalty, his contract is fine and justifiable. The dislike isn't commensurate with his actual value.

At the time, I agreed with re-signing Greene. These guys won 2 cups in 3 years.

Can't expect a player to show loyalty to a team if the team doesn't show it back.

I think it was mainly to piss Herby off.

100%.

And at a $2.5M cap hit, it seemed like a pretty darn good deal for us. 100% he could have gotten more from other teams if he had wanted.

Hopefully he retires and becomes a coach for us, maybe even with the Reign.

If not, keep him on LTIR or even consider a buyout in the off-season. I dont think we'll see Greene back on the ice again.

I hope he can come back, but I won't hold my breath. He was a guy NO ONE wanted to face. Yeah he took dumb penalties, and yeah he was slow, but man, other players must've hated playing against him. He was mean and punishing.

Yup, one of the trademarks of our team. The Schenn move was to bring some bruising back imo, we've been getting pushed around a bit with some of our softer guys lately. Is another reason I hope we land buff ;)

But Greene is a big mean SOB, he just flat out wrecks people, but respectfully--no one 'dislikes' him.
