Could Matt Duchene be the perfect stop gap solution as a 2nd center in Mtl?

He grew up a Habs fan and I don't think he'll ask for too much terms

I don't think salary would be a problem for the Habs, but I don't think at Duchene age, Hughes would sign him for more than 3 years.

With the habs being an up and coming team, the opportunity of playing with Demidov, maybe the future UFA would consider the possibility?

Thoughts?

I'd be surprised. He seems to have found a home in Dallas, so I'm sure he'd probably rather stay. But that will depend on whether there's a fit. Benn, IIRC, has already said to sign everyone else first and then get to him. So there should be enough there.

Cap reasons? If I'm Duchene I'm staying away from la belle province and staying in Dallas for sure if they want me back and can fit me

Nashville will continue to subsidize Duchene for us, cap is not a big concern because Duchene is not money hungry with Nashville paying his salary.

Nobody who has 50+ million dollars isn't money hungry. He signed cheaper to try and win a cup and because he was bought out and considered damaged goods. There wasn't some big bidding war for him.

I don't even like Duchene but he's definitely not signing another cheapo deal for his last contract.

What a perfet dinner....together
Damn I'm hungry now.

I read the same post last year and he signed the exact same 1 year, $3 million deal though.

lmfao

He may be the most take a discount to play in a city you like player in the league and the dude really wants to be a country music cowboy.

Duchene only plays center
Duchene NEVER played center for Nashville, and we were crying out for a center, and desperately signed him in the hopes that he could be a center. But he just isn't really a center kind of a player? Well, he wasn't a fit AT ALL at center for Colorado or Nashville. Yet now seems to be for Dallas? :dunno:

Anyway, I only know what I saw in Nashville, and the guy just carried the puck into the corner every time and couldn't play center if his life depended on it. Some smarter coaches in Dallas seem to have fixed him? I don't know if I'd trust that to hold everywhere. He sure never looked like a guy who could play center to me. But he's not going to Montreal, he has found a sweet sweet home in Dallas while the dumbass Preds continue to subsidize his salary. :help:

He took over market value for his Nashville contract with virtually everyone saying it would get bought out before the end, and everyone was right. He chose Dallas because he already burned his bridge in Colorado and wanted to play for a western contender. Vegas was the only other option because the West has been extremely top heavy in the past few years.

I just saw he's making $6,555,556 in Nashville next season. Ouch.

Douchene outperformed that contract just 1 year in after the covid stupidity. Why Nashville bought him out still makes no sense. Can easily argue hes played at that $7M value in Dallas too. Still dont like him though.
