No. As much as I would like Perreault's contract to be over, the Jets don't currently have the depth to trade decent young players to get rid of him. He only has 1 year remaining anyways and the Jets are actually in a decent position cap wise.

Would you move your first pick instead of Roslovic?

Not a chance, that's a ridiculous ask.

The issue is that the Jets need to contend at some point and this contract takes space which could be allocated to a quality Dman. I really hope WPG goes after Pietrangelo / Krug but that would most likely end up taking 7/9 m cap, so 7m remaining for 7 players to sign, that is tight.

Unless Little comes back, which looks unlikely, the Jets will have plenty of cap space without paying to unload anyone. Even with Little they will be fine.

Barring Pietrangelo, the Jets aren't one player from being real contenders and I think it's unlikely that he comes to Winnipeg. Krug isn't worth that, he puts up great numbers, but his play in his own zone is somewhat lacking. Not that I don't think he'll get that or at least something close, I just hope it isn't from the Jets.

I agree 7/8m would be an overpayment but you always overpay for UFAs and I feel he is a very good 2/3D, which would make him overpaid by what 1/2m ? The issue I see with the Jets is that they need a better defense and offensive depth, right ? And next Laine contract will most likely take some more millions. I feel like you are really not far from contending given the number of difference makers you have upfront and your great goalie, + Morrissey and Pionk both solid. Honestly I think Pietrangelo would be awesome on your team in my opinion, crossing the fingers for you :) which is also why I believe the proposal to dump Perreault makes sense.

If Montreal moves out Tatar and/or Domi and doesn't manage to bring anyone else in I could see Montreal taking on Perreault for less than Roslovic

Really? I can't.

The very last thing Montreal needs is another 30ish point undersized left shot forward. There are so many better ways for them to use their cap space. Including just not spending it again.

It's only for one season, I'm just saying if Bergevin doesn't go out and grab any one on the UFA market. We know Montreal loves adding French players, they'd get an asset back and Perreault is still a useful player that could be retained at the deadline and flipped. I would 100% rather them spend to the cap and acquire assets than have 5-10 million in cap just sitting around

They don't love adding French players. Also, even if ownership is fine with Bergevin spending to the cap in these uncertain times, I'm not sure they'd be that interested in only a minor add for a player they don't need when there are better opportunities elsewhere to address needs. And Winnipeg doesn't need cap space, so they aren't going to feel as desperate as others to move salary.

Why? Because he's french? Perreault has no spot on the Habs roster. He's just capspace and unless the Jets would make it worthwhile (like the Armia/Mason trade), there is no point.

HFBoards fans are so predictable. Insert underperforming overpaid "french player", propose trade to Habs as if they would overlook the lack of value and jump at the opportunity. They are so misguided.

One only has to look at the Habs draft history. They are drafting primarily out of US colleges, Europe and the WHL / OHL. Few Habs draft picks are from the Q. Habs are drafting based on best available player and not best quebecois player.

Matheson, Vlasic, Perreault..... all players the Habs would avoid like the plague.

yup - and as if NHL teams don't reach for the local kid. As if this is a montreal phenomenon. Boston doesn't trade for local kids? nah? Toronto? never! etc

Perreault’s contract is almost done. Jets won’t pay anyone to take him.

If anything, maybe a team like Ottawa picks him up for like a 4th round pick and then flips him again at the deadline to a playoff team looking for a veteran depth forward.

Here is your answer. The original poster of both proposals is terrible at understanding players worth and team needs. One week he would offer Laine for a UFA center, and the next week he would offer 2 AHLers for Huberdeau. He already said in the other post that he is "terrible at this"...his next step in the program is just to stop.
