New York Islanders: Mathieu Darche is named GM of the New York Islanders

I think this is a solid move — I would like to see if he is name President and GM or just GM, and they either leave president open or as I suspect, Collins would function as president. Not sure Shanny would want to come in (or anyone else) who did not hire the GM himself.

Still — i like the move. i think Darche is more than ready, and will bring a modern and fresh approach. He comes from a great program that has drafted and developed players and run the cap well.

I don’t think it necessarily precludes Shanny at all. If anything, it gives him one free future GM firing with 0 heat since Darche wasn’t his pick.

They could have also spoke about it if they have indeed met and Shanny could have given his thoughts on working with Darche. Who knows.

This was who I wanted.

I think people are too hard on experienced GMs in comparison to fresh ones because they have something to criticize vs nothing to judge off of but I wanted someone new who came from a winning program.

Now I want Shanahan above him because he has the league contacts and experience.

So, in reference to whoever mentioned Shanahan having played with MacLean & Abelin.......if we hire Darche today, can he quickly fire those two before we possibly hire Shanahan as POHO? Asking for a friend.

Assuming Shanahan comes on as well, neither he nor Darche will be allowed to be part of the draft process correct? Seems like a disadvantage to have nobody from hockey ops on the draft floor.
