Marty Mcsorley talks about the role of enforcer

Throwing an enforcer on a line in today's league is the equivalent to putting Dehya in your party in Genshin.

Sorry non-weebs, I'm out.

Exhibit A of someone who has never played hockey.
A look at most enforcers will show they were the biggest problem when it came to cheap shots.

Then the code b.s.? It was merely a way for them to come up with nonsense to protect themselves against getting Clarked or Kocured.

A true enforcer wouldn't have been part of the problem nor came up with small cat rules about not punching a guy after he falls.

Enforcers were like WWE wrestlers with their code b.s.

When I was younger, I always thought of McSorley as a big stubborn stupid meathead, from what he did on the ice. Equiped with a Jofa-helmet also.

This video though show a soft spoken seemingly intelligent dude with sad/tears(?) in his eyes.

NHL is no longer those days, at times those fighters from those days crossed the line but I have a ton of respect for them.

I would of much sooner talk to a guy like Marty or Bob P back in the day then a guy like Guy L or Bossy, etc.

I really enjoyed that interview. I had no idea that McSorely was as articulate as he is.

Enforcers have pretty much gone the way of the dinosaur but there was a time in the past where they had a role and McSorely played that role well.

He was also a good 4th line checker and 3rd pairing D-man.

Given how many interviews he's done over the years I'm surprised so many are just seeing now how articulate he is.

First time I've ever watched an interview by him, as far as I can recall

Have to add context here to a few of the above posts. There are certain people that you just don't hit or try to minimize contact with. Signed, a 5'9 defenseman.
