All he needs to do now is put weights on his ankles so he can stop getting out muscled and leveled on the boards 24/7 6'3 and 215 is a little light for his height.

Can't believe lucic is 240.

Muzzin needs to be consistent, he has moments of greatness and random moments of absolutely brain farts. If he can lessen that more and more he will be solid #3 defenseman. Just really got to get his core strength much stronger. No one can knock down Voynov for example because he has a strong core.

Muzzin has been the difference this year, and also he has stepped up his game from earlier this season when the Kings defense, and Muzzin in particular, sucked.

He still has some brain farts as KK said above, but they have been fewer. I must admit, given his history, I do put too much emphasis on his brain farts and do not give him enough credit for his stand-up defensive play. The fact that Sutter uses him consistently on the PP does not escape me either, and I trust Sutter's judgment implicitly.

No, no, no, you're doing it all wrong Gann. Muzzin sucks! Get Muzzin off the ice! Trade Muzzin! Muffin stinks out there!

Everyone makes mistakes but Muzzin's seem to always be noticed while other players's are easily ignored. That is understandable given his history. But he is a much improved player now and hope he doesn't take a step back.

I'm sure getting on the job training from Drew Doughty is a factor in Muzzin's development as well.

Muzzin is the only defenseman currently on the Kings roster that allows Drew to play the game he likes to play. That says something about Muzzin's ability also. Doughty was not playing that well with Regehr as his partner.

Bingo.

Excellent point.

I am by no means a Muzzin cheerleader, but I have to admit he has improved dramatically this season.

As have King and Nolan. Guys that a few folks said, "Let them get a camp and full season with Sutter under their belt, and then let's see what we have."

Thanks again Gann!

Bang on--I think we often forget how young these guys are and how few NHL games they've played just because they've been to the promised land. There's still plenty of learning going on. I fully admit to being wrong-ish about Muzzin--there is VAST improvement there and he's thrown far less grenades now that he has a partner that knows where to be (and maybe he personally knows the system better so the brain cramps are minimized).

Very much so. The guys we've been putting with Doughty are good defensively but can't think the game like Doughty (except maybe Scuds, but definitely not WITH the puck!). Muzzin seems to be able to keep up there and that helps infinitely. Note that it works both ways, too--Muzz jumps into the play a lot!

I used to be on team Martinez but Muzzin has outplayed him this season and it really hasn't been close. The only thing Martinez brings over Muzzin is his speed and maybe his breakout passes.

I think I mentioned a few games ago that I'd love to see Martinez get a shot with Doughty but I do think Muzzin is the higher-upside player, or at least more dynamic--Martinez is great at moving and skating the puck out, but he's mostly a straight-line sort of player, safe and smart. That being said, Martinez is FANTASTIC in his role as a lower-pairing d-man and that defensive depth is arguably what gives us the edge on some teams.

Agreed. That being said though, A-Mart also tends to have a couple of defensive brain-farts per game. If he'd iron those out, I'd feel a lot better. ;)
