Wouldn't have an issue giving him 11x5. Have zero interest signing him beyond that though as that brings him to 33 and the start of decline(See Tavares, John) so definitely not happening as it'll be max term or nothing for him. Would be nice to see him feed Slaf and Laine.

The industry standard for a high tax market for a player like Marner (all star forward without trophies) in high tax markets is about 14% aav. Guys like Mack/matthews/drai get About 15%.

That would put him at about 12.95 aav. Now that the cap is going up I wonder if it’s about 13% like Willie. Maybe 11.93 if he really loves his junior number.

On my team... 6-7@10M is the most I'd offer.

I expect he'll get 7@ btw 13.5-15M depending on how good his season is this year.

Calgary or Columbus will pay him what he wants and give him the low pressure environment he probably needs.

7×12mil. If his season goes well n injury free.
Gotta pay (overpay) for FAs and these types aren't avail often and the cap is moving north.
Leafs will find a wayto keep him thou, is my guess.

I think marner walks to free agency, signs with Columbus 7x12.

Shanahan is in his last year, if the leafs crash and burn like they always do, he will use marner as a scapegoat.

I know there will be a lot of hyperbole, but what is the max he gets from a team outside of the Leafs? Assuming he doesn't go to a complete bottom feeder, what is the max a team looking to compete could offer him? Is it 11x7?

Leafs have the ability to offer an 8th year. I think unless he takes something reasonable, the play is to let him see the offers out there and match it and let him decide. If he doesn't want to be a Leaf outside of being overpaid by several million then bye.

A rare case where a guy might get more as a ufa on his own team than on the free market because of Nylanders cap hit

Nylander is probably an equal player to Marner. Marner much better defensively, Nylander much more dangerous with the puck

I’d offer the Nylander contract as my top offer

If he wants 12-13 + it’s probably time to move on
Nylander has only once been close to being as productive as Marner. The only question is how much more are the Leafs going to pay Marner than Nylander?

He's not a scapegoat, he is one of the highest paid in the league and a total playoff dud.

He goes from 102 goals per 60 in the season to 210th in the playoffs
He goes from 12th points per 60 to 46th in the playoffs

I guess in his defense Matthews has been awful as well? But Matthews is a 6'3 center who has scored 69 and Mitch is a soft winger. He deserves the criticism he gets.

As as hockey fan, I like players who leave a little on the table for the team because they want to win. What I don't respect is players who go after max deals and put hand cuffs on the GM for trying to ice a complete roster that has a chance to win.

$10M or $12M for 8 years. $80M vs $96M. I chuckle when they talk about missing out on $16M but they got $80M. And that's not including what he got on the current deal.

Nylander was extremely underpaid because Tavares, Matthews, Marner got their money first. Is it Marner's turn to take the Nylander underpaid treatment? I'm curious to see how much Marner wants to stay with the Leafs and bring that cup back.

If he wants more than Nylander got, they should walk away.

How many years is that for. As it doesn’t jive with moneypuck numbers. The minutes are much higher in yours.
