I think there is no team wants MM and that’s why MM is focusing on finishing the contract.
On a serious note, I think both Leafs and Ferris are actively shopping MM but don’t want to look desperate by stating he wants to stay…..and one GM will think he gets a great steal on MM in July.
Good points... this is a difficult one for Treliving... find a team with space, and a need for Marner, and also a team Marner wants to go to. Doubtful that Marner will just allow a trade without the 8 years. Too risky that he encounters a drop off in points without Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, who he knows he can produce with.

??

I don't understand this post at all. Unless you're quoting someone on my ignore list and I'm therefore missing the context?
Well there has been a couple of statements made that Mitch intends to play out his contract and the reaction is, it’s just a negotiating ploy. Lol

Marner's camp says they are both staying and not negotiating.
The GM is saying they are not going to make a move to say they are making a move.

There is no indication that he's gonna get moved by both sides.

The fact that they aren’t trying to sign him to an extension should tell you everything you need to know.

Well that's not impossible but in any case, if someone says something you think makes no sense and you want to comment on it, it would be helpful if you quoted them. Otherwise you'll just be another acc1224 who several times a day likes to say how stupid people here are without any specifics as to who he's talking about and why he thinks they're stupid and he looks pretty ridiculous doing it.

1. That makes sense if Marner is intent on staying a Leaf and knows they won't come near his ask. The waiting game is their best play, in hopes the Leafs cave. Marner's agent better start warming Marner to the idea of a new team, in case this doesn't work.

2. That's pretty much saying nothing since he can't make a move without Marner's permission.

3. Marner has probably told his agent he wants to stay. Agents probably just go for the money but he needs to convince Marner that he's on his side.

Maybe he is just going to bet on himself and not worry about his next deal until the summer of 2025. How many guys extend exactly a year ahead of schedule? Has anyone?

Can someone explain what is to be gained by planting vague information with 'media' types?

They can't until July 1. That tells you everything you need to know about your understanding of NHL contract rules

You need to follow all the presuppositions around here to explain peoples positions.
1. Marner sucks (he doesn't)
2. Marner is greedy (an accusation often thrown around by the talentless)
3. Media has a huge effect on the operational decisions of elite players in one of the wealthiest teams in the NHL (they dont)
4. People around here are dumb (they are)

Still something we haven't been able to figure out, makes no sense for Ferris to drop this and have Leaf fans hate Marner even more than before knowing he won't waive and will test UFA

Perhaps Ferris saying to Lebrun their camp is not really interested in talking extension come July 1st is to nip-in-the-bud the leafs simply not offering an extension, at any value.

If he is sincere in not wanting to waive his NMC and playing out the year he'd better have thick skin (which we know he doesn't) or he'd better have the best season of his career by far, or he's gonna get roasted by the fans and media all season long.

A great season includes a great playoffs. He can score 120 pts with 40 goals and if he shits the bed again in the playoffs he can kiss the big raise he's expecting good-bye

Chara and Niedermeyer both signed as UFAs. Tre's job will be much more difficult than Dubas's as he is left to pick up the pieces of Dubas's massive failure as GM. But it's not impossible. He will have to perform better than he did in Calgary. And it sure would help if he didn't have to answer to that Shanahan guy.

Mitch is basically a $11 million placeholder. There’s literally no concern or worry that he walks himself out the door and we get zero trade return because that’s $11 million in freedom July 2025. Play hardball and nasty all you want. It’s over in 13 months time in a free agent class that currently consists of Draisaitl, Rantanen and Shesterkin.
Every year people always say X great player is a UFA but in reality how many make it to that
All those players you mention I guarantee will be signing with their current team. Losing one of those players would set their current team back to the beginning

Why does Ferris need LeBrun to know that? He would just tell Trelving that.

Some lucky GM will get a steal alright, which will be highway robbery once he watches Marner call it quits after game 82.
