They should have put lambert on the same line as aatu raty and hirvonen. Would make a theme from of guys who should have been drafted higher.

I like that they separated niemela and puutio cuz it potentially allows niemela to do his thing. The few times i’ve seen him play in the liiga, when he plays conservatively, he plays VERY conservatively.

Pretty good start for our prospects. Hirvonen with a goal and 2 assists and awarded Player of the Game for Finland. Niemela played more than minutes than anyone else. Looking forward to seeing how Knies plays at 10.

I still think the kid has an outside shot of making the Leafs. Two way LW

2 years away at least for me.

Unless you are in your mid-20's or were a top 5 pick, most guys coming from Europe need at least one year in the AHL before going for the NHL. He is going back to the Liiga again for a year, so he will still need that extra year for the AHL after that.

Yeah, there's some stuff to like about his game but lets not get too excited about putting up a 3 point night against Latvia.

He needs to take another step forward this year in Finland and pump up those point totals showing he can be a legit top 6 player there. If he does that then you might be able to start projecting an NHL career.

I try to be realistic about prospects, he works hard, good defensively, has some grit/pest attributes, can chip in a bit offensively. But on the other hand small, no high end skill - skating, shot, playmaking all good/ok but no standout.

If he makes it I'd expect a role and impact somewhere in the range of Timashov to Trevor Moore. Undersized but stocky wingers, strong on the forecheck, kill penalties and chip in some offense if he manages to reach the more optimistic end of his projected upside.

If the Leafs were to trade Sandin for another young prospect I would still love to add Dylan Garand. He is likely going ro be Canada’s starter over Cossa. Problem is we have a lot of goalies taking up spots with Woll, Kallgren, Petruzzeli, McKay Cavallin.

Why if he's ready, he's ready? The kid played 3 years in the top finnish league. He looks a lot closer than further than a lot of our prospects.

I'm pretty sure Robertson, Anderson, Malgin, Steeves, Abruzzesse, etc. would do even better against Latvia if they were dropped into this tournament. We have a lot of older options, some not waiver exempt. It's just really difficult to see Roni making the team this year as realistic imo.

From of all the highlights I have seen, his skating needs massive improvement. He has some nice hands and a solid shot, but he is not getting anywhere with that skating ability.

Also keep in mind that they are playing one of the worst teams in the KHL here, and this is not even their best lineup.

For comparison purposes, the NHLe of NLA, Liiga and AHL aren't that far apart.

NLA ║ 0.459 ║
║ Liiga ║ 0.441 ║
║ AHL ║ 0.389

Hirvonen just put 26 points in 46 games.
Robertson was PPG in the AHL,
Malgin was over PPG in NLA
Anderson put up 42 in 56
Steeves 46 in 58 games..

No need to rush him, we have plenty of prospects that have out produced him. Another year in the Liiga, then a year in the AHL, and you will likely end up with a much better player, allowing them to slowly build confidence in their game, instead of rushing them. He's only 20.
