It sucks that the WJC won't be on regulat TV only on tsn.ca or tsn app.
I work on the road alot having to pay for data won't be able to watch most of the games .
Sucks.
Every game of the world juniors is on regular tv

We will have to draft some D next year, of find a way to start adding some D to our prospect system for sure.

You look back and see our drafted D, that played much in the NHL and it's;

2002 Ian White
2005 Stralman
2006 Holzer
2007 Gunnarsson
2008 Pateryn
2008 Schenn
2012 Rielly
2015 Dermott
2017 Sandin
2018 Liljegren
2018 Durzi

Lessons are.. be patient with D, and don't give them away too soon.

Not a single D drafted the last two years, but that's ok, we needed forwards too.
I actually think we may be surprised by both Villeneuve and Neimela on the right side. I think the left side may be a bit weak. Kral is the only kid I really like. Agree most D take time to develop!
Leafs need to stop drafting out of Russia. They have had zero success, the players are either bad or they’re decent and don’t get any playing time there, like the Ovchinnikov debacle. Then they draft Akhtyamov one year, and then draft his teammate Peksa the next year, and they are both fighting for starts. Then they have bad luck with Amirov’s medical issues. It’s clearly been a disaster but they draft Grebenkin this year, hope he does well but at what point do they give up?
i think some serious consideration needs to be made regarding this because of the lack of playing time many of these players are faced with. It seems like unless they are can’t miss kids who come over right away they are stuck in the 2 year development hell where they get no playing time.

It’s truly unfortunate step back for Amirov and I just hope the kid has a long and healthy life but the fan in me wants to see that kid some where saying could be the steal of the first round be a force on the TML. As for the goalies again get them out of there and playing with the Marlies although I think that crease is really packed right now. In any case the world has changed regarding Russian players because of the political climate and the way the KHL is structured. That may change with less international player perhaps willing to go play there but money talks especially if your trying to feed your family. Personally I would try every avenue before playing in Russia if I had the choice as a professional athlete.

Kokkonen is much more likely than Kral to become a serviceable player, though Kral does seem to have a higher upside. I am high on Kokkonen though and think there is more offense than he has shown. I think he's going to have an impact similar to Ron Hainsey when Hainsey was with the Leafs. He won't be as good as Hainsey once was, that's not what I'm saying, just the same impact that Hainsey had when he was here.

Yesh i agree - imo Kokkonen is a legit and right now underrated prospect who may help the big team as early as this year, while i dont think Kral is a real prospect.

Krals development has been positive. And if I recall, wasn't he only like 5'10 when he was drafted and now he's 6'2-6'3. I'm sure he's still growing into his body and learning how to play as a bigger player.

It might have been the year before he was drafted that he had a big growth spurt, but I think I remember reading about this somewhere.

Kral's development has been nothing but progression. He was the only one who didn't look like a mess from the d man under Moore's system. A good year and he puts himself in callup territory.

Kokkonen I've said for a while his defence alone should get him to the NHL. The offense I'm not sure of yet but his Marlies sample size showed he has it in him.

With Kral's skillset he needs to show much better AHL production and at age 23 this year it kinda needs to happen now.

I've said it before, but the style of play in Liiga is vastly different to that of basically every other league in the world. The teams play a much higher cycle game, which causes most goals to be scored off the cycle instead of off the rush.

He just needs to show .5PPG. He held that production for the first half of the season but then had something like 1pt in 20 games.

2023 draft looks great from what I see so far .
Ethan gauthier C is someone to keep an eye on.
Hrabal G another one to watch

So far

Unfortunate Tverberg didn't make the Canada WJ roster despite being the last cut for the team in December and that team needing many replacements. Guess his second half of the season soured on them.

Why would you cheer against Canada? If the answer is what I think it is, sure root against those kids that had nothing to do with any previous infractions.
Yea I forgot they replaced all the people working for Hockey Canada who covered everything up, and have still been downplaying it even since it became public ... oh wait.

Anyways go Knies!

Hockey Canada, it’s board and executives either need to be fully replaced, or Hockey Canada needs to be stripped of its stewardship of hockey in Canada and replaced by an accountable org. Their actions have been deplorable and are an embarrassment nationally.

But that won’t stop me from cheering for Canadian kids to succeed.

You cheer for executives?
No moreso cheer against shitty organizations. Rather cheer for our prospects anyhow.

If the Leafs did something like this a few years ago but most of the team was different today, but the all the management and executives were around running the team would you still support and have season tickets to the Leafs?
