Same reason people weren't higher on Moore, combo of "boring" (high energy average/small 2-way mid 6 upside) plus not being drafted so no multi-year emotional investment in his progression from 18-21
Maybe.
I think it’s more about the numbers game that’s tempering enthusiasm atm about him. And probably Pontus too.
Given that he/both are waiver exempt, and there were three/four forwards added as free agents, they’re gonna have to really beat out the incumbents and new guys.

Time for Robertson to do this at the NHL level. Only one empty net goal out of his 16 in the AHL last year (28 games) 20 years old. He has an NHL shot. Nose for the net, I think his injuries are the only reason people don't have him penned into the lineup. Time to give him a long look. Excited for him this season.

If he isn't ready then he doesn't get the spot.

He's played a total of what, 65 games over the past 2 years?

He'll be 21 in September, the age when overagers begin their pro career.

It's a competition, let's see if he can win a spot on the podium.

From viewing his goals, I kinda wonder if RW is the way to go for him, seems to have a good one timer.

Kucherov and Kane are 2 guys that have a left shot at RW, must help their shooting angles.

Robertson playing RW for his one timer would be a complete waste. Watch his shot when he's just shooting it. He has almost zero follow through with his shot. It's such an odd technique, I don't think I can think of anyone else that shoots this way.

Man the puck gets off his stick in a hurry though. Half of his goals seem to be from the right side of the rink though, and he's got a very accurate shot. I was surprised that he had a few breakaway goals too.

If we can get a 2nd rd pk in the 2023 draft.

Micheal Hrabal G Czech
6'6" 200 lbs rated to go in the 2nd rd or early 3 rd

His problem at the NHL level is he hasn't gotten himself open for looks cause he's been very eager to look involved and hard working everywhere else. Will be interested to see how his game has evolved and if he's able to quiet it down.

Also looks like he has a somewhat lengthier stick for his height relative to other little guys like a St Louis or a Gaudreau. I wonder if he'll shorten that to get better control, but might lose something in the shot:

They were slowly chopping off half an inch of his stick at a time over the course of last off-season to get it to a better height for improved control.

That photo looks to be from the prior season.

Not looking good for Akhtyamov. Miftakhov, who is only a year and a bit older and was just terminated because he was not even able to be an average AHL goalie, beat him out for a job.

Apparently Peksa is going to be in the MHL again too with a goalie a year younger than him coming from another system beating him out for the VHL job.

Kind of sucks that these guys have been prospects for less than two years and they are pretty much in bust territory.

Peksa made no sense at the time. Still shocked about picking a D1 Russian goalie with <20 MHL GP, but at least it was a late pick and his numbers were amazing last year. We know nothing about goalies, but if he keeps stopping the puck at above a .930 clip he'll continue moving up. Guys very athletic, and [especially] goalies don't always track the same way. Could be the first guy to take the path he's currently on and show success.

Akhtyamov made sense on draft day, and he's also salvageable. He's just gotta pick up where he left off in the regular season, and start playing in the KHL as soon as possible. It's unbelievable how much worse his standing is currently compared to where he was at last year at this time. Save the damn puck.

Russia has been pretty good at producing goalies recently. Their #3 guy (Sorokin) would probably be Canada's #1G. So I think it's just our team throwing darts against the dart board, but specifically trying to target Russian goalies, and hoping for the best.

I just see that Akhtyamov was traded to another VHL team and will be their starter. Where did you get the info about Peksa going back to MHL? I really hope that isn't the case, Peksa needs to test out some stiffer competition.

Initially shy, Tverberg was amazed at how easy it was to strike up a conversation with any of the Leafs around the facility. Given Tverberg’s obscure hockey reference, it wasn’t a surprise to learn that he bonded well with Jason Spezza.

“I would always steal things from him, which is crazy because he was such an old guy and it’s kind just cool how I’m running outside on the track with him and just being on the ice and seeing how he skates how his hands were,” Tverberg said. ”How he can shoot the puck was just crazy to me at such an older age than me.”

:laugh::laugh:
Reading this makes me want him to succeed even more so to be honest. Love people like this

There's two things that basically every Russian goalie has that end up havimg NHL success: they're full-time in the KHL by their D2 (or earlier) and they had/have success with their world junior teams. Peksa is faaaaaaar from both, and Ahktyamov is fringe for WJC as he was blocked by Askarov, but he had success at the VHL besides an awful ~20 game streak. He needs to be playing real KHL games soon or there's never been a goalie that's had a similar path to him. Doesn't look good that his team gave up on him though.

Marlies sign Budgell, Solow, Badini, and re-sign O'Brien to fill out the remaining holes on the Growlers.

Only Cavallin and McKay were signed to two-year deals. Seems like the Marlies want to see more from everyone else before committing to them.

Only Melindy and Skirving are signed to ECHL contracts on the Growlers right now.

Kind of random, but I find it hilarious that in all these “Top NHL Affiliated Prospect” rankings, there is almost never any mention of Niemela. Crazy to me that he is still so unknown or underrated to most considering he just posted the best U20 point total for defence ever in Liiga and was easily the second most reliable dman on Karpat the full year. I think he was leading the entire Liiga (forwards and dman) in points about halfway through the season for a bit?
Was a bit shaky in playoffs, but it is unbelievable that nobody really recognizes how good he was this season. I think he’s a top 20ish prospect outside of the NHL, easy. Although peoples rankings don’t mean anything at the end of the day… Still kind of funny to me. Hope he stays “underrated” and away from media attention to be honest.
