I didn't think Moore was the guy for the Marlies but credit where credit is due, he's been able to really coach a team into a contender at the AHL level.

It helps that he finally has some top notch goaltending though, whereas last year he had some wild inconsistently bad goaltending. We'll see how things go when goaltending slows down.

Rifai to me has been great. He'll in the NHL one day if he keeps that trajectory up.

Haven’t heard much of voit lately
That team is so stacked. They added pastujov, christian kyrou, del matro, del bell belluz. Some are defensemen, but I feel that offensive dman can cannibalize production.

Before the additions, voit had the puck most of the time, but since he has to share now, production is expected to decrease.

So does Knies get #89 or is Robertson entitled to it since he had it first?
Robertson was handed the number and he didn't argue it, so I'd assume it's probably as simple as asking/favour type of thing. IIRC though Knies was 19 with Tri City and it was taken when he went to Minnesota. Really might not be attached to 89 at all.

Any insight on Vladislav Kara?

Just noticed he's having a nice breakout season in the KHL with 15 goals and 26 points in 51 games .. tied for 1st on his team in goals and 4th in points. A 6'2 left winger and entering his prime at 24.

Have to imagine he could move over to North America soon?

Would be nice to see him come over to really Guage where he is at. Some of our Russian prospects are quietly having good seasons.

Grebenkin with his 17pts in 33 games, if he had played all games and kept that average up, he would be 2nd on his team in scoring. He's currently 4th

Scott Wheeler of the Athletic is counting down teams and their prospect rankings each day. Today the Leafs came out at 18. I was actually surprised to see them at 18. I was expecting around 21-24 and each passing day it wasn't the Leafs. I figured the depth would be the reason and that is exactly what was written.

1. Knies
2. Robertson
3. Minten
4. Niemela
--
5. Moldenhauer
6. Hirvonen
7. Hildeby
8. Woll
9. Tverberg
--
10. Voit
11. Grebyonkin
12. Villeneuve
13. Petruzzelli
14. Akhtyamov
15. Peksa

The list is quite goalie heavy. I think the only potentially eye-opening omission was SDA, he was mentioned as an a player that was considered for this top 15.

I actually like Wheeler's player evaluation unlike most people, but his rankings are always completely out to lunch in an "I'm smarter than literally everyone" type of way that is completely unjustified. He then consistently talks about how right he was but ignores the other 9/10 times he whiffed on a similar outrageous call.

Can't be easy doing 32 prospect pools + preparing for the upcoming draft, but its insane to justify basically any goalie in our top-15 besides Hildeby while leaving out Abruzzese (I'm assuming he aged out), Kokkonen, Lisowsky, Miller, and especially SDA.

IMO the Leafs are deep in B prospects but are thin at the top of true blue chippers. Knies is probably the only one right now.

To be expected when you’re drafting later in rounds. But the fact that they’re this deep and have moved as many picks as they have is a sign that Dubas has drafted/developed well with his picks that he is given.

Correct about Abruzzese as he aged out (under 23). For additional context for others who don't have the article, Kokkonen, Lisowsky, Ovchinnikov, Kressler, Miller, Koster and Miettinen (who he specifically mentioned he liked but hasn't take enough steps forward) were also honourable mentions in addition to SDA. Abramov and Gogolev fell out of consideration.

Grebyonkin has to be pushing into our top 5 prospects. Like the results are just impossible to ignore at this point.
Absolutely gross hands on him too. It can't be stressed enough how ridiculous this pick looked by the Leafs in the first place, and it's looking like an absolute steal at this point.

For reference he currently has a 0.56 PPG through almost 34 GP with this team. 0.43 if you count the 7 games where he played an average of 2:12 per game. Here are the U20 players with at least 0.4 PPG, +10GP in the last 10 years:

2022-23:
Grebyonkin (TOR 5th 2022 OA)
Yarovoy (2x undrafted)
Fedotov (AZ 2nd 2021)

2020-21:
Chinakhov (CBJ 1st 2020 OA)

2019-20:
Marchenko (CBJ 2nd 2018)
Morozov (VGK 2nd 2018)

2018-19:
Vesalainen (VGK 1st 2017)
Kravtsov (NYR 1st 2018)

2017-18:
Tolvanen (NSH 1st 2017)

2016-17:
Kaprizov (MIN 5th 2015)
Polunin (UDFA)

2015-16:
Kaprizov
Polunin

2014-15:
Buchnevich (NYR 3rd 2013)
Golyshev (NYI 4th 2016 OA [lol])

2013-14:
Buchnevich

Not going to count the Fins because they play their players differently, even in the KHL. Besides them there's 11 finished seasons in the last 10 years by 8 players that fit the criteria. One is a legitimate NHL superstar (Kaprizov), one is a top-6+ player (Buchnevich), three are making some kind of NHL impact (Chinakhov, Marchenko, and Kravtsov), one hasn't played above the AHL and probably won't at his current pace (Morozov), and two are career KHL players (Golyshev & Polunin), but Polunin is the only UDFA and Golyshev wasn't drafted until after his D+3. 5/8 chance of NHL games at this point, 7/10 if you include the Fins.

Odd. If Abruzzese aged out, I wonder why Woll and Petruzzelli are still on the list?
