Kallgren started and only played the first period.
It was a continuation of a postponed game. You probably remember there was a medical emergency in the stands and they called off the game after the first period.
Kallgren started the game back on January 13th with Ferguson I think as the backup. Today, we had Woll and Petruzzelli as our goalies. That is why 4 guys were listed on the sheet for us. Ironically, I think the rest of the lineup remained the same for both teams.
Kallgren was with the Leafs today so he wasn't available. I don't think the Leafs really care about giving him ice time anymore... He has really sucked with the Marlies, has only had brief glimpses of solid play with the Leafs, and almost certainly is leaving as a Group 6 UFA after this year... Most likely to go back to Europe.
--- Start of a side tangent.
No idea what the Leafs end up doing with their goalies next year. Woll is great, but needs waivers. That is more of an NHL problem I would say. Petruzzelli has potential but is still too inconsistent to be a reliable #3. Hildeby is signed and is doing fairly well in Sweden. I don't know if the Leafs really want to loan him to Sweden again so he will probably be on the Marlies depth chart, but much like Petruzzelli, do you want him as the #3? I guess Kallgren came over from Sweden and was a #3 right away. He wasn't the best #3 in the world but was good enough for the most part.
Ferguson and Kallgren are likely not back, and then Cavallin and McKay are likely the depth goalies for the Marlies while taking up the Growlers' spots again. Cavallin had a hot start but really cooled off. He should be fine to spot games for the Marlies. McKay sucked but is now doing better. He is still bad even at the ECHL level and is just an older depth guy without any kind of upside. It is also possible the Leafs add a full time extra goalie for the Marlies, as they've often needed 3 reliable goalies. Maybe it is Cavallin, or they find another NCAA/CHL guy they like to compete with him. Not sure they really go after an older guy unless they sign him to an NHL deal and think he can be our #3.
I've already iterated all of this before, but now it is more clear that Kallgren almost certainly won't be back next year.
