I would consider that a win. Getting a multi year NHL player out of a 3rd round pick is a win.

I guess I disagree that his upside is so locked in at 18 years old. Like just inherently I don't agree with that and he has shown this year flashes of skill that would play higher up in a lineup. He is producing better then would be expected, but on one of the best teams in the CHL. Next season is likely the season that really puts light on what his true potential is going forward, but I think just shutting the door and saying, well 3rd line centre is the cap already is a step to quick.
So far Minten is producing with Stankoven off the team so a good sign. It will be a nice test for him during the WJHC. D+1 is a pivotal year and especially how he can improve against the curve in the second half. He is pacing for 40g which only Bedard, Stank, Guenther and five D+2 players did last year. A big step for Minten if he is not carried by Stankoven.

Sweet, Holl never played a single game for the team that drafted him, so you two consider it a massive win for Niemela to join the NHL in his mid-late 20s for a different NHL team?

I bet if you ask Chicago fans they dont consider drafting him in the second round a win.

Well if you are shifting that goal posts like that, then I can just say that Niemela is already a lot further than Holl was at the same age since he has already signed with this organization (Holl never signed an ELC with Chicago) and has accomplished a lot more.

So by your logic, he has not become Justin Holl, but rather better than Justin Holl.

Anything is possible, and skills obviously improve, but Minten is fundamentally not a dynamic player.

He has a nice shot, so maybe he can be a complimentary top 6 player, but the puck skills, playmaking, skating, etc. would need a massive and highly unlikely leap forward to become a top 6 player on a contender... In which case he possibly could be another Eriksson Ek.

But once we start getting into that, we start falling for a lot of drafting pitfalls which usually results in a lot of disappointing picks. Especially since Eriksson Ek looked more dynamic than Minten as a teen. Nick Paul, and hopefully one that doesn't need to hit waivers first, may be a more realistic high end expectation and I would hope for more potential on the high end than that out of an early 2nd.

Hey, prospect experts, if you were another team trading an asset to the Leafs, which Marlie would you have any interest in?

I don't mean, who is the top rated prospect, I mean is there any Marlie you think would help your NHL team, today and into the future?

Or is he already playing in the NHL?

Depends on what I would want, but probably Steeves. Guys like him can fit most places.

Wouldn't be against Villeneuve or Abruzzese either.

The rest are solid but more likely secondary pieces at this point.

Do we have anyone in the WJC? I don't think so?
Most of the best NHL prospects on display in the WJC tournament.

Teams are loaded with high draft picks of teams.

When your team has prospects in it always adds intrigue as you get to evaluate your future feeding system..

I can't remember a time when Leafs had Zero players involved.

There is no room to sit on the tank for any good young players in a few years anyway. They would only slow the tank down. Not a single player on the current roster will be here in 4 years. The tanking will probably last until 2030. "There will be pain!" Let's just hope we win a cup or two before the tank starts.

can't really tell if this hit is high from the angle we're given, but what the hell is ridly greig doing there to make that hit in the first place? lmao that looks pretty clearly like a charge and belleville got no penalties here while clifford got 5 and a game

I'd be curious to know if there was a drop in viewership, with the biggest Canadian market not having a reason to watch beyond hokey national pride.

because i think it's crazy to not have hoef on the ice on the PP even if it means using 2 D and he hasn't touched the ice in a PP situation this game lol

Both are much better puck movers. Hoefenmayer has a nice shot but that isn't an important quality out of a PP QB. Puck moving ability is more important.

Now, they should probably just have him as a shooter, since that shot is probably better than some of the forwards they have, but that is a different argument.

Not going to lie, but Fantilli is seriously lacking any kind of awareness for a guy with that kind of upside.

It has been present at both of his WJC tournaments.

He definitely does not play on the top line and does not pk. He plays on the 2nd pp unit as the bumper guy (what kadri did on the pp with the leafs).

Grebyonkin seems a lot more aggressive in the khl. He attacks the net more and does not shy away from contact. From my viewings of his time in the mhl, he looked disengaged, but today's game is night and day. The khl coaches probably told him he's out of the league if he doesn't play with more intensity. He made some pretty nice quick passes that his teammates could not receive.

He plays a safe game. He does a lot of dump-ins and his transition game is non-existent. His off-puck game (gap control, closing out, positioning) is better. His offensive instincts were not bad. Even when he made a mistake or two, I could see what he was going for. My one issue is that he did not generate anything offensively this game. It could be his teammates or his hesitance to do something crazy. I will say he, a D+2 guy, is at the same level perhaps a little bitter than Korshkov was when he was d+3.

Holy. The coach is deploying him a lot more in the 3rd. He had one good chance on the pp. He's also shooting a lot this game, but the shots are low danger. I want him to pull the jake gardiner more.

SECONDARY ASSIST:
Grebyonkin executes a zone entry while getting swarmed by 2 opposing players. He spins off the checks, sends the puck into the air in the middle of the zone to a teammate who then passes it to another guy who shoots it in.

Apparently chebykin is top 5 in terms of fastest skaters.

I think the khl should have a u20 russian team focused on development. They can play against vhl and khl teams. That way, they may have a chance to catch up to finland/sweden. It seems like they are not developing anything by playing prospects under 5 minutes.
