i would assume that if amirov plays this year, it'll be in russia. i'd be ok with him playing vhl or mhl as he gets back into game shape sice it's been a long ass time since he's played in a game. and then have him start the next year fresh in NA with the marlies.

I figured as much as well but Dubas earlier this year said they wanted him playing for us, or something to that effect.

If he had been playing without a big gap then AHL would've made sense but I feel like it'll be too much for him coming back into that. Not sure if ECHL is a great place either, especially being away from his home. VHL/MHL seems to make the most sense at least until he gets back up to speed, then maybe you think about AHL.

VHL/MHL maybe and then get him over here in training camp next year.

I think he was nearly recruited for the war there but then was exempted due to medical reasons, I worry about him getting a clean bill of health and then either being sent to front line or being strong armed to stay playing hockey in Russia with the threat of being sent to do military stuff on the front lines if he tries to leave.

What do we think of Noel Hoefenmayer's AHL success so far? Any NHL potential there?
I recall seeing him in a couple games last year. He has decent size and moved the puck well. His stats this year are impressive, 23 points in 24 games with 63 penalty minutes. Understand he'll need to improve his skating to have a chance.

Kokkonen starting to figure it out. Started out really slow this year but is now stepping up and meeting his potential.
What is his potential? Bottom-pairing? BTW, he's listed as 6-2 on the ahl website, while others have him at 6'0. I'm pretty sure he's the latter, but I haven't seen him in a while.

Really hope Woll gets some time in the show this season. If Murray is moved for cap next season, an in-house back-up would make things easier.

Why would you move Murray?

He's going to get a shot somewhere, at some point. The question will be, can his game translate, will he be good enough defensively, as it seems his skating, and offensive capabilities should be good enough.

His skating needs work. Rest of your post is accurate

Because he's only played 5 games, Woll isn't listed in the overall AHL stats. If he keeps this up for a few more, he'll be amongst the league's leaders.

I'm 50/50 on moving him. Samsonov needs a new contract. Bunting needs a new contract. Kampf needs a deal.

Depends on how active the GM wishes to be in UFA next year.

Right now, capfriendly says Leafs have around 12.7m next season with only 5 forwards signed, 5 defenceman signed and 3 RFAs on the current roster. Younger players like Steeves, Anderson, Robertson, Knies will definitely play a role.

If you move Murray, you could probably re-sign Bunting, get another LW, grab a decent defenceman in UFA, and get some forward good depth

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Jankrok - Tavares - Nylander
Knies - Holmberg - Robertson
Steeves - Kampf - Anderson

Rielly- Brodie
Sandin - lily
Giordano - Timmins

Samsonov
Woll

That's what it would look like if Leafs just re-signed our players. Getting a top six and top 4 D would help a lot and Leafs might need Murray's money to do that. Also, the bottom six could use an upgrade. I doubt mgmt wants too many inexperienced players. I wouldn't also be averse to moving Jankrok, but that's for another thread, lol.

That Capfriendly number has Muzzin's cap hit on it too. Same with Jarnkrok, who is also not present in this lineup and could easily take that 2LW spot again if he continues to show as he has been in this brief stint. Leafs probably do not want to invest big money in that spot when Knies or Robertson is likely expected to take that job at some point.

Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Robertson - UFA - Jarnkrok
Holmberg - Kampf - Anderson
UFA

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Liljegren
Giordano - UFA
Timmins

Murray - Samsonov

PP: Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Rielly & Knies, Robertson, Jarnkrok, Bunting, Sandin
PK: Kampf, Marner, 3C, Jarnkrok, Holmberg, Anderson with Rielly, Brodie, Gio, Liljegren, and Timmins.

Samsonov, Timmins, Kampf, Bunting, Holmberg, and Anderson would need to be re-signed out of that group... Plus signing Knies of course.

Need a new 3C and bottom pairing RD who can PK. Effectively a Kerfoot who can win more draws and maybe has a bit more size and a cost-effective Holl since Holl is going to get paid. Then some good depth guys to join Steeves, Abruzzese, SDA, Kral, Woll, etc. and that can include re-signing some RFA's like Mete, Hollowell, and Gaudette since none of them would be the first call-ups anyways. We should have enough money to do all of that.

Really starting to like Max Ellis' game, me may be on the smaller side but he can fly and he has a relentlessness similar to Trevor Moore, really fun to watch. Hollowell is looking good, great puck mover, agile on his skates and very confident and composed with the puck, I think the pandemic may have stunted his development, he looks to be back on track now. Rifai is starting to look like a player, way improved since the first game I saw him play live. Hoefenmeyer still looks solid to me, has a cannon of a point shot, he does need to improve his skating like others have mentioned. Great game tonight, a lot to be positive about. Peace, love and happy holidays to everyone.

My random observations from the Marlies game:
- Woll was excellent. Had a couple shaky moments early handling the puck, but otherwise was quite composed
- Not sure what to make of Hoefenmayer. Demonstrated again he has a shot and looked 'ok' all-around, but I certainly wouldn't say he looked like a standout at the AHL level
- Abruzzese was kinda quiet. SDA made a couple stupid plays in the first, but then settled down and looked good. Shaw had a couple standout moments. Steeves was effective. McMann looked alright.
- I liked Kokkonen's quiet game. Looked steady.
- Hollowell is clearly on another level offensively and is a fun to watch at that level, but he did have a couple sloppy defensive plays in the 3rd
- Clifford's funny to watch at this point. Chuckled at him waiting for a breakaway pass on the opposition blueline on the PK at one point... (that misses some context and he would've had said breakaway if a Wilkes Barre player didn't knock a saucer pass out of the air, but still funny...)
- Johnstone seems to be everywhere when he's on the ice, but simply lacks skill
- Rifai could be an interesting project. Ellis has some wheels.

I just realized that the only reason holmberg is wearing a blue jersey is because thommie bergman asked for a 6th rounder in 2018 so that he could spend it on an overager. While most gms would not grant this pick, bergman hasn’t gotten a draft pick in years. I don’t count hildeby cuz he’s a goalie and i don’t think bergman even scouts goalies.

Bergman single-handedly bailed out Leafs drafting when it was bad.

Our drafting has been much better under Dubas, but even now he is still finding gems in the late rounds. Sweden hasn't really had too many attractive ones since Dubas has taken over.
