Anyone know how soon or if we can see Roni and Topi this season?

Would they be eligible to play for the Leafs or Marlies after their teams are eliminated, like Knies and Abruzesse last season?

Finally, when can we have them for good to Join the Leafs/Marlies programs?

Thanks all.
We could technically have them now as they are under contract with the Leafs and on loan to Liiga. But yes they won’t come until their seasons end, and even then I think they’d only see Marlies action, if they are still playing that is. So soonest time would be around playoffs, end of this season.

I’d expect them to join by next season. I was kind of expecting Niemela to come to the AHL this year but if they don’t come over next season then something went wrong.

I assume it'll be anytime after the World Championships, which I think they'd have a good shot at making the team.

Niemela I could see joining the Leafs and soaking the experience. He's also NHL ready I think and could maybe make for an interesting depth option if he's around before the playoffs.

Hirvonen -- I'm less inclined to think he's NHL ready. He's one prospect that I think the Leafs won't mind trading in the right deal.

Gogolev and Ellis are 2 guys under contract that would be nice to get out of too.

Ellis has been pretty good. Tons of speed and work ethic. He reminds me a bit of Trevor Moore. I think you'd need to watch more Marlies games if you think he's been bad.

Gogolev has definitely not taking the next step after a promising AHL rookie season. He has been dominating the ECHL though.

Hopefully their best players are getting fed the minutes on the Rock.
Playing time anywhere is better than bench time ... Nic ...

one thing i have noticed about this season is mikhail abramov has been out of the lineup for almost half the games so far this season (only played in 13/24 marlies games).

i don't know if this is because he's been hurt or if it's been because greg moore has decided he's gonna keep him out of the lineup half the time, but i don't understand the decision to play people like marc johnstone, graham slaggert, or ryan chyzowsky in more games at this point.

I'm not sure if he's been injured since, or they're giving him limited time coming back from his injury, or if he's being healthy scratched BUT, he was injured for all of October, essentially

Abramov was hurt and missed the first part of the season. He's been pretty much a regular since returning

i'd just noticed him being out of 2 games in a row in december and november and assumed the worst, but the injury all of october makes the lack of games make sense

oh change up or shake up?

He may just want to go back to the States. Or go for a better paying industry. He is not technically a hockey guy and he can probably make a lot more money with his Engineering degree than what a hockey team is paying him.

I don't hate the idea of getting him some games back down there. He has had a little bit of a rough stretch since coming back from the Leafs, and the Marlies do have Kallgren/Woll plus Ferguson as the 3rd goalie in case of emergency.

Woll-Kallgren
Ferguson

Petruzzelli-Cavallin
McKay

McKay and Ferguson have not been all that great at their respective levels and are not really factors in our goaltending depth chart in the long term, so getting them ice time is not a priority like it would be if Petruzzelli were still with the Marlies.

I understood why they gave Gogolev the ELC...it's been disappointment since.

Guilty on stat line watching with Ellis but 5'8 winger and stats not really standing out. I'll take your word on it. He's just a bit older too so you'd think he would stand out more.

Gogolev had one timely hot streak when he first got to the AHL.

His first full rookie season was a nightmare from the get go. He just sucks. Skills competition player who floats around the ice like he's Lemieux, but there's no substance to his game.

I really like Lisowsky, great value for a 7th round pick. 2 goals and an assist so far today

Good for him, but as someone who likes to watch Spokane, they really suck this year. So not as impressive as his last two goal game from a week ago.

Tommasso De Luca and Saige Weinstein are not talked about enough though. They may slip to the mid-late rounds and could easily be steals there.
