Looks like Joey A was a one man wrecking crew yesterday. In on both goals, and had the SO winner.
Hutch 35/37 and 2/2 in SO.

Hutch should retire now. We all know his next game is going to be like 4 goals on 20 shots against or something like that.

Excited to see how he does. I expect him to struggle for the first few games, but once he gets settled he could really be an offensive threat for this squad.
Yup that's kinda how I see it as well. I think he won't really be given a ton of runway to start either. Could be a while before we see any sort of impact. He does have game breaking speed so he may be able to slip between the cracks here and there.

As much as I love Dmitry's skillset, my expectations are very low. He is a long term play IMO

My expectations are effectively the same as an AHL contract. There is a long shot chance he works out like a Holl or Marchment, but the vast majority don't even come close.

Big game for Holmberg today. 4 assists. 3 at ES and 1 on the PP. One was an EN but still. 39 points in 44 games.
I'm at the point where you give him a taste in the NHL at the end of the year, and see how ready he is. Maybe could be an option for us.
Definitely an interesting piece moving forward.

Camp is gonna be so competitive for very few spots -) Robertson, Holmberg, Steeves, Anderson, maybe amirov all fighting for little spots.

Amirov won't be playing next year at all. If he does return early, it will likely be long after he can compete for a spot out of camp.

Can include Abruzzese in that mix though (if he is still here).

Outside chance Knies goes pro... Maybe unlikely, but possible.

This guy is a stud. I said it on the main forum in the Varlamov thread, but I think it's worth repeating. I honestly think we need to just roll the dice with the players we have in our system this year. Maybe a small add like Luke Schenn or another comparable physical D-man that can block shots. The reason I say that is this just doesn't seem like our year with how good our division is. We have some really nice pieces close to making their impact on the NHL, Holmberg being one of them. Knies, Robertson, Steeves, Abruzzese all see time in the NHL within the next 2 seasons IMO. If you also add in the fact that we may have lost our top prospect for good in Amirov, I just think we need to make sure we hold onto that 1st. I may be alone on that, but sustained success needs to be a priority IMO. We need to get back into the 1st round.

It will be hard to stay positive after yet another R1 exit should that happen, but our future looks really bright IMO. We just have to contain these kids and shoot our shot another year when the playoff landscape doesn't look as difficult.

Holmberg has got to be as close to a lock next season no?? but ya I am with you, if they can bring him over as a black ace or next man in later in the season it could be great for his development.

It's fair to say his numbers won't translate, but he ticks every box of a guy you'd want to sign as an IFA and give a shot at the bottom of your roster. Luckily we drafted him and he's already signed, so 31 teams won't get that chance.

Plays both C & W
Plays in one of the best men's leagues.. as a 1C on a playoff team
Production is incredible
Underlying stats show he drives play (esp defensively)

A guy who doesn't produce until this late in their career really has the cards stacked against them until they actually prove themselves, but I've watched him so much the last few years I know there's a NHL player there.

His faceoff numbers are not amazing though, so he needs some Malhotra magic if he wants to stick there at the NHL.

Reminds me of Karl Pilar incident back in 2001

Karl was really finding his own as a D with the Leafs... he was never the same after coming back from the heart problem

Not really expecing Amirov to be playing hockey any time soon

Not sure if anyone else caught it but I saw on Twitter someone mention that Ovchinnikov is practicing with the Marlies already.

Or our very own Viktor Stahlberg

Viktor Stalberg was like 6'3", 220 lbs and was pretty much a pure power forward type.

Holmberg is maybe 6'0" and under 200lbs, and will likely be a 30 point defensive forward in the NHL.

I just mean in the sense of him coming over after a good year in the SHL. nothing about player type

EDIT* He played in the NCAA, but he was a late round pick that surprised and made the team.

I know Duszak has requested a new home. But, unless the Leafs get something they can use back, I think it makes more sense to not qualify him in the summer and let him become a FA.

He is a PPG player in the AHL. The Marlies are a in dog fight for the postseason. It doesn't make sense to weaken them without some incentive.

If another team wants to give him a shot, the Leafs will make it happen. They've been very good to players in that sense. Barabanov for Suomela was so bad in retrospect but that's the kind of move I see the Leafs doing.

Duszak has been terrific as a forward as well. I assume whoever has scouted the Marlies lately probably would say positive things about what he can do.

Is it bad that the part of this post that makes me the happiest is that Michaelis is returning? Marlies desperately need him.

The other two... Meh. Maybe if Ovchinnikov doesn't look like Ho-Sang has for most of this year.
