Mayfield most likely...1.45M this year and next and can play in the top 4 as a right handed shot...not sure we can find a better fit...

Someone... was it @zeke or @SeaOfBlue had posted some info, suggesting Mayfield wasn't any better than Holl stats wise.... Help??

Mayfield and Holl's careers have been extremely similar in every way.

That being said, Holl has struggled this year. Though imo he's started to turn jt around lately.

Mayfield has not been good without Pelech, that's important to note.

If we're being completely fair, this year NYI LD after Pelech is non-existent. Chara and Greene are both 3rd pairing/7th D caliber now.

Mayfield plays a style that we could use on the back end too.

yeah I think he'd be an upgrade but not by a ton, would rather chase a bigger fish

There’s no need to rush Knies. If he crushes the olympics that’s awesome but shouldn’t change the development path for him. Let him keep playing in the NCAA for a few more seasons.

The other side of this is simplicity... Without any further winger draft picks, we have Knies, Robertson, Amirov and perhaps Hirovonen and Abramov as players, who if they are NHL calibre, are likely to be knocking on the door for spots. How many rookies can we insert into the lineup at once anyway? One, two? If Robertson is going to make it, I would guess next year is his year. The longer that we can develop these guys into quality players, and the more we can spread out their insertion into the lineup, the better we are going to be.

Hopefully Voit's year doesn't get derailed too much with covid. He's had a very good start so don't want to see it happen. His game was postponed again today. For now they play tomorrow but we'll see if they even do. I know everybody is dealing with it but still.

On a related note, I admit I don't follow OHL transactions too much, but just from reading, Sarnia has made some strange trades recently. Maybe someone more in tune could provide more insight. @SeaOfBlue thats your call:laugh: I disagree with you on a couple things but your excellent on keeping tabs on this stuff.

I think trading any one of Robertson/Amirov/Knies would be a mistake TBH. We need top 6 talent down the left side at minimal costs going forward. I suspect our answer is already within that group of prospects.

I am actually not overly in favor of moving any of our big prospects TBH. I think the best prospect I'd move is maybe Hirvonen TBH. He has value leaguewide likely, and between Matthews/JT and Kampf we are set 1-3 for this year and next. Not to mention, it is highly unlikely that Kampf see's much of a raise thereafter. If so, it would likely be proportionate to the cap at that time. Hirvonen is unlikely to be a 3C at the NHL level within the next 3 years. Or at least not on a cup contending team. To me, he is a very expendable prospect that should hold moderate value.

I really do believe we are about to enter the golden era of this core. I pray to god that this core group can get past the first round this year. Do enough in the playoffs to justify not making a move and hopefully keep Kyle in charge. I think this next wave of prospects is about 2 seasons away from being everyday guys. No matter the pain that occurs in between now and then, I desperately want to see that team come to life. Imagine Matthews/JT/Willy/Marner/Sandin/Mo/Lilly with all that ELC top shelf talent. It would be a joke

It sucks that he's lost so much time to injury already. Had he been playing consistently this year we'd likely have seen him in a ton of NHL games so far this year.

Great news is he has started skating again.
The COVID pause and subsequent postponed games have probably benefitted Robertson. The Marlies still have ~35 games or so left in the season so it softens the blow of missing 10 weeks.

Pre-season I would have expected Robertson to be a mid-season call-up after a couple dozen games in the AHL, but at this point I think he finishes the year with the Marlies.

The biggest issue breaking a bone is that he can't train anything, not even cardio. He's likely lost a good amount of strength, especially lower body and core, which are the areas he already needed to improve.

It'll take him a while to get back into game shape.

I've seen Voit's name floated as a potential WJC player for the US next year. Pretty cool.

Ben Meyers scored both goals. He is likely to be the top free agent signing out of the NCAA this year. Seems to have some chemistry with Knies. I wonder if that gives us a leg up.
I can tell you that it's not "seems to". They have great chemistry and I expect they'll be lineys in China.

Two nice assists for Knies tonight in his return to the NCAA.

Probably would help us for sure. But he’s facing a lot of competition to get in the Leafs. He might want to go somewhere with an easier opportunity. Good thing is that the Leafs don’t have any long term guys right now blocking the way so he could get a chance if he performs.

I hate to bring this up to you ( :sarcasm: ) but I really hope Jack McBain goes UFA and chooses to come to Toronto. I've been pimping him out in this thread for a few months now.

On a friendlier note, I really love the updates you've been providing on Knies on these boards this year. Thank you!

Meyers and McBain, there’s gonna be opportunities after the inevitable cap shedding deals.
Fill up those spots with nice ELC guys.

I would be concerned if you didn't.

Sarnia moved a couple of OA's in Reesor and Guy. Not really a surprise for one of the worst teams in the OHL. They also moved a couple of 03's who are nothing special to get some picks and probably some opportunities for some better/younger players.

At the same time, they added some better 03's than the ones they dumped, most likely because they want to go for it next year. Not sure they have enough high end talent nor depth to do it, but at least they should have a lot of assets to trade next year if they can't make a proper run at a Championship.

I'm not a Wild fan. I'm a Gopher fan and that's pretty much it.

I really fail to see what we would gain by him playing anymore then his sophomore season. Him dominating the same level for 4 seasons...leading him to the choice of signing for whoever he wants doesn't exactly sound ideal to me. If he wants to sign...you sign him and if he isn't ready then he plays in the AHL.

He may need/want one more year, but if not I wouldn't mind him coming. Jumping from the NCAA to NHL is probably what he wants, not AHL time.

If someone could let me know where I can watch Springfield and Belleville tomorrow I would be grateful.

Better prospects then him have spent time in the AHL. Don't see why he would all of a sudden be granted a spot. If he deserves it then awesome, otherwise nothing wrong with some time in the AHL especially if he signs with us after this season.
