As an outsider... Whatabout Stone and Ryan, both are RW?

Also, wouldn't cap penalties occur when Hossa retires?

Hossa trade proposals should be banned on this board. It just won't happen.

For some reason I've wanted Hossa back since the all star game here(Ottawa). It would have been worth it all this time too.

Here's the thing about Hossa.

If the Blackhawks trade him, what's stopping him from retiring? His salary will drop to 1M per after this season, which is nothing for a guy in his shoes. If Ottawa isn't competitive enough for his liking, or he was only staying in the league to add to what the Blackhawks as a group have accomplished and a trade insults him, he would retire and the Blackhawks would be hit with cap recapture. That would defeat the purpose of trading him away to get out of his 5M cap hit.

Now, in a fantasy land marshmellow clouds situation where Hossa wants to keep playing forever ala Jagr and will accept a trade from Chicago, I don't think it takes much to get him sent to Ottawa because if you look at Hossa's contract there aren't many non-cap teams in the league ready to be competitive who would take regressing a low salary high cap hit player with multiple years left like Hossa.

Ultimately, the only way CHI is probably getting out of the poison pill that is Hossa's contract will be via a legitimate unfortunate career ending injury that allows them to put him on LTIR. If they insult him by dumping him in a trade, he can just retire. If they buy him out, they still face cap recapture. If they keep him, there is a good chance he quickly regresses to a player not worth anywhere near 5M. (Look how quickly guys regress from year to year in their late 30s).

What sucks about this is he'd be absolutely a fantastic piece for us to add - and there's almost no way we can.

why? do Chicago fans see him retiring their...or is it a possibility that he is dealt?

The short of it is, if he retires Chicago=****ed by cap recapture penalties. He only makes 1M per season in real money next season, so he has very little financial incentive to keep playing if he wants to stay in CHI but gets traded to a different team. He is regressing, so his cap hit/remaining contract term won't be moveable to cap teams and will only appeal to budget teams like Ottawa or Columbus who would only be worried about his 1M salary and not his 5M cap hit.

A lot has been written about it more in depth over the last few seasons (google it if you need more details).

Now, if you go back 7-8 years I'd love to have hossa back on the team when he was effective...

but now? Hell no  people need to get over this past love for him, and accept him for the player that he actually is.

Sens have Brown, White, Perron, Dahlen, Chlapik, Paul and maybe Gagne and a few others coming up in the next few years. Sens will need roster spots to welcome all that talent

I love Hossa and would have him on a short term deal but there's just too much term left on his contract

Why did they ever trade him to begin with?

Dany Heatley was a very attractive talent

But yeah most Sens fans probably wish it never happened.

Nothing, Stan Bowman isn't trading Hossa because of the cap recapture penalty should he retire early. And that's pretty much bound to happen because i doubt he plays until 42 years of age.

Hawks won't trade him, cap recapture penalties are brutal.

Though maybe the NHL could stop being pissy and have legal contracts being an anchor post signing maybe the hawks would. But until that happens we will see. Lou or hossa are most likely the first to "retire" with the cap recapture penalties so we will see where the precedence is set.

May as well trade for Spezza and Chara while you're at it. Bring back Heater, Havlat, heck, bring Wade Redden out of retirement. Only problem is the Sens would win the Presidents trophy and then lose in the Finals. Oh wait, this is 2016, not 2006? Who knew. :dunno:

it would cost very little for Hossa

Bowman would want a lot...... Trading Hossa would be risky business if the league actually wants to pursue cap penalties - so Bowman will want some sort of significant asset coming back.

But even as a Hawks fan I don't want to see him go, and he is still a very good player - certainly a 2 way boss.
