With the amount of flak Richards and Torts are getting right now i find it a little odd that Gaborik isn't being mentioned much at all, 3 points in his last 10 games to me just isn't cutting it. Richards is getting ripped for not playing like his salary indicates, while Gaboriks getting paid 7.5 mill to be an elite, game changing threat, that aside from the better part of two games this years hes been the furthest thing from. Specifically watching him during the snoozefest last night he looked disinterested, if there was a word for doing less then coasting i would use it but i cant think of one, the last 10 games or so hes been skating around watching while other guys work the boards expecting someone to put the puck right on his stick for him to take a shot. He was dominant in the Boston game, he was a threat out there, his presence opened up the ice for other guys because defense men were constantly looking for him to do something with the puck, and despite having chara draped over him for the entire game still used his speed, and keen puck sense to get around the defense and put himself in positions to score. If he gave us half a period of that effort last night i think it would have been a totally different game, however to me he just refuses to break a sweat to be a game changer and would rather just wait it out for opportunities that in recent games just haven't been coming.

Also i think a big part of Richards playing like **** and not creating offense is playing with a lackadaisical Gaborik lately, last year gaborik was putting himself in positions for richards to feed him, and then using his world class shot to take advantage of those oppurtunites, cant say ive seen much of that from him thus far this season.

as has been said numerous times in this forum, Gaborik is the kind of player that is supposed to be invisible, quitely get into a scoring area then be noticed when its too late. hopefully as the puck is crossing the goal line. hes not a Nash type player that holds onto the puck and draws defenders towards him. Gaborik tries to avoid them. hence the "floating" moe towards the scoring areas. some games it works out better than others...hence your Boston example. he always has been a streaky scorer, with a good statistical season/bad statistical season rotation throughout his entire career. is he worth his salary? hard for me to say. someone seems to think so, or else he wouldnt be playing.
 
i understand hes supposed to be invisible and i get that he can float some of the time waiting for oppurtunity, but those opportunities aren't coming and hes not doing anything to change that, for example we did the usual dump in yesterday and he just stood there while callahan got mauled by three guys along the boards, we lost the puck and gaborik coasted back to the bench, to me thats a problem. in some cases he needs to go into the dirty areas and help out
 
i wont argue there. going to the dirty areas would certainly help out, but have you seen him in those areas?! hes almost useless. he gets knocked away from the puck, knocked down or he gets in his teammates way. he should stay out of the way and float in the scoring areas if you ask me.
 
Yeah I'll agree that he hasn't looked that good this year, and a lot of the times he's had shots in the slot he's waited too long and it gets blocked, or he shoots it right in the goalie's chest. Very frustrating when our premier sniper gets chances like that and doesn't even make the goalie need to work.

While he hasn't been racking up the points, he's still got 11 points and 7 goals, so I think he'll be fine. Like the poster above said, he's streaky so I wouldn't be surprised if he had a 3 point game tomorrow night.

Gabby had a bad game (maybe because he was playing with Cally and figured he could "relax" a little) and the Rangers themselves didn't play that well. Very boring, slow game. We'll bounce back and Gabby will be a reason why.

I killed Stepan and Richards... I don't have it in me for another one. No more negativity from me (at least for 24 hours).

Gabby will be fine. Or, you know, he won't, and we'll miss the playoffs. haha

Wait, doesn't Gabs do the "1 on/1 off" year thing. Pretty sure this is due to be an off year for him.
 
If leading the team with 7 goals (38 goal pace in 82 game season) and 3 game winners (tied for 2nd in the league) is an off year, ill take it.

And I thought he played pretty well last game.

He relies on being "forgotten" about to be effective. Thats his game. Should we sticky this?

If everyone just understands that basic fact about him, 90% of the flak goes away.

No, I actually think its Richards. It has nothing to do with Gaborik. Richards can play with anyone, its himself whos making the **** passes. His carelessness and giveaways are one of the reasons why hes been subpar this year.
 
What if it's actually Richards who is making Gaborik float more than usual because Marian knows in the back of his head, that poor Brad can't complete a tape to tape pass through traffic anymore. Richards just got BODIED by a tiny midget in Plekanec and Deshernais/Gallagher last night. That's hard to forget. Seeing your #1 center hold onto the puck too long and get out muscled by a 175 lb soaking wet guy who is about 5'9".

If I was Gaborik, personally, I wouldn't trust that guy to feed me passes all night anymore. I would hang back a little more than usual just in case he screws up in the O-zone next time, and gives up yet ANOTHER breakaway. ( Oh and the worst part is Gaborik can actually backcheck and catch up to 85% of players on a break, poor Brad can't even cross the blue line when the shooter is already in on Hank)

Think about that for a moment. We are missing communication out on the ice. Torts is telling them to grind and dump, but it looks to me like he is forgetting to tell them to communicate with each other and provide SUPPORT on the puck. They need to start supporting each other and know in the back of their heads that my line-mate/ D-man has my back if I take this risk. So far, no cigar boys.

Does it seem like Gabby has lost a little confidence in his wrister since his injury last year? He still has the quick release but it seems to be that most of his goals come from right in front as opposed to streaking down the wing and burying one past the goalie.

I don't think Gabby has played that well but I've actually been impressed with how many times he has put himself in good positions for rebounds, tips and finishing chances out in front of the net. For such a soft guy he does an excellent job at putting away garbage.

Against Washington I think he could have had 2-3 goals quite easily if for a bit better finishing and Holtby not standing on his head.
 
I am not happy with Gaborik's game... Far too frequently he is a non-factor when he's on the ice. It's not just the points that I care about, I want to see him playing effectively & consistently.
 
Ihave been saying this for a while now. Think we trade him at the Draft to recoup the 1st moved for Nash, add a prospect or two and gain some much needed financial flexibility to make life easier to resign our RFA's this summer and also try to find a cheaper LW option as Nash seems to have slotted in nicely on the RW with Hags and Stepan.
 
Could it also be it's a shortened season and every game means more so each game has tighter checking therefore Gáborík is invisible? When the going gets tough, Gáborík doesn't get his hands dirty and stays out of the dirty areas.

No. No and NO. The only reason Gabby is being criticized is because he isn't as noticeable as Nash. But he has produced more than Nash or any one else on the Rangers for that matter. As long as he does I frankly don't give a ****.

Gabby is being criticised because 8 of his 11 points (5 of his 7 goals) came in a three game stretch about a month ago.

He's being criticised because he has 3 points in 8 games in February.

He's being criticised because he's amassed his point totals in just 5 of the teams 15 games.

I would rather he spread those totals out over the 15 games and be a factor on a regular basis as opposed what is an average of 1 showing every 3 games.

He's paid to be a factor nightly. If he's not a factor nightly, then he is not doing his job.

I like Gaborik, think teams need snipers like him. But I would MUCH rather prefer him to have scored his goals more evenly as opposed to scoring in just 4 out of 15 games.

Exactly.

"Stats stats stats" is the only defense for Gaborik, and there's flaws in that as well. As you pointed out.

I'd disagree that Gaborik is invisible. He's very noticeable. Noticeably lazy. He refuses to move his feet, at all. No second effort. No back check. He's stationary on the power play.

How many times does his coach need to allude to all of this before the player gets it.

I am more inclined to agree with this assessment than to allow for another built in excuse like "OMG he's a stealth bomber you aren't supposed to see them, do you guys even watch the games you doo doo heads?". Seriously, he is an elusive player and that is a PART of his game but it certainly doesn't excuse him from moving his feet and being proactive, which he rarely is.

Four of his 7 goals and 7 of his 11pts are against TOR and NYI again... He has points in 5 of 15 games.
 
I am not happy with his game. I don't think, for what he is paid, he is a consistent enough presence on the ice. If he is not scoring, he is doing nothing.
 
The "sneaky" argument is silly, IMO. The game is played in an enclosed, small environment.

"Sneaky".

He's lazy. Disengaged. Disinterested. He's shown up for two games this season. 2g-2a in the rest of the 14 games.

Then you have a player like Hagelin, who never stops, scored 10 points in his last 8 games, plays in all situations.

Honestly if things don't turn around, and this season ends up as kind of a waste... I do everything I can to move Gabs and Richards.

Can you imagine if we had all of that money available? It wouldn't suck.

That and a guy like Nash who has points in 10 games, and is visible most of the time. But gets **** on for not scoring goals.
