Correct I'll worn out assets toward the end of their value and usage. which one of those guys that was dealt was an impact player anywhere after they were traded? The only one that's done anything is hayes and NYR made the right decision not giving him that contract he wanted. Thanks for making my point

It was a much better head start than any other team that went into a rebuild, other than the Senators.

Not arguing that Gorton did extremely well on cutting bait on those core guys at the perfect time.

Not quite. We still have the performance bonus issue, so we can't actually spend that much.

Who came close to hitting that besides Fox? And what would Fox's be? He's not cracking $3M on the hit, didn't come close to those figures.

Yup just let Hank play out his deal now. No need to ruffle feathers and do anything crazy. Their should be enough space to ice the same team as last year without Staal. It’s not like there’s any real targets this summer to make a splash with and I would rather not trade ADA after the season he just had

You want to keep 3 goalies another year?

Losing their 2nd next year affects the type of offer-sheet they can extend, though. Unless it's in the $4,363,096 - $6,544,640 range, in which the price is a 1st and a 3rd.

Is 6.5 AAV enough to where a team like Tampa can walk away from Sergachev or Cirelli?

yep this move can officially kill any offer sheet talks. they were never going to happen but the talks can now stop too

Better than who? What point are you trying to make? Gorts has done a great job, period, I don't know why you feel you need create a narrative. You listed nash who retired, stepan who is a legit anchor contract providing 3rd line quality play, hayes who NYR properly didn't get that contract to, and brassard who was on the decline and hasnt really done much since leaving except contribute to this run for nyi

I'm not talking about the bonuses earned, I'm talking about the potential bonuses. There is a bonus cushion, which is 7.5% of the cap. Between Laf, Shesty, Kakko, Fox and Chytil, we will be at nearly 10 mil in potential bonuses. Those have to be accounted for. The total cap hits + potential bonuses cannot exceed 87.6125 mil. So if we have 10 mil in bonuses, that means we have about 4 mil less we can actually spend.

My point was that rebuilds always look good on paper, even moreso when you are tearing down a playoff caliber roster, but turning all those picks and prospects into a sustainable balanced competitive team is where the hard work actually begins.

One of the best first round picks we ever made.

i really dislike the venom directed towards long time stalwarts on a team. One day Kaapo and LaF will be old and, if they had fine careers, will venom be directed at them from the board 15 years from now? Likely. Will it be fair? No. Like Girardi, this guy was a warrior who made us proud to be Ranger fans. Heart and soul and no one, one one, on the team was more widely respected. I’ll never forget Ovi saying that he saw Staal and Girardi in his summer nightmares. Plus, he sacrificed his health for this team...for us. Not just short term injuries, but life long injuries.

Glad he’s gone? Sure. His time was up. But hold you hatred and venom.
