Don't wanna ruin the night but potentially they extend Strome now.

Then again, that may not be the worst thing in the world at a few million. Chicago won the Cup with Handzus and Richards at 2C.

Ryan Strome is not that bad, geez. 59 points in 70 games and I don't care if he was playing with Panarin. I wouldn't mind them signing him short term to a reasonable deal.

What Gorton has accomplished since the letter should award him the benefit of the doubt for quite awhile. I loved this guy before he has name GM and he's done very little to change that since. This organization continues in the right direction...

Ehhhh.. He had the benefit of liquidating a playoff caliber roster. Such a jump start on a rebuild compared to other teams that sucked so bad they HAD to rebuild, the Rangers chose to.

Not sure how sad he can be, this might have freed up his money

No they did that with Brady. The Rangers didn't need to make this move, but were able to pull it off. This means there's space. The Rangers are one of the few teams that can add a forward to the expansion protection list and have Gaut and Lemmie as options for Seattle.

Very intrigued to see further steps. I posted about trading one of the undesirable logs to DET a few weeks ago, after I heard some noise about DET and NYR on the deal like this but I thought it would have been Smith and one that would have saved just $1M or so. Some of you might remember the Smith/Nemeth proposal from a couple of weeks ago.

Shows you how little info leaks out, you just get the principal teams and needs, but nothing more than that unless you are tied into hockey as your profession.

Glad he's gone, but also sad as it's the end of another era. He was a damn good Ranger. Even though I shook my head most of the time he was on the ice, it's going to be weird seeing him in another shirt.

Would love to know if this is a precursor to something or if the Rangers just want to avoid buyout penalties as a matter of course.

Or what another decade of mediocrity?
Gorton has done a great job! Hopefully it will translate into several cups.
He’s an excellent GM.

For @GoAwayStaal dreams do come true!!!

Now we need to know what the next username will be.

But in all seriousness, I loved Marc Staal for many reasons. This organization was a laughing stock for so long and he was one of the initial pieces, if not the starting piece, to building more from within. Dubinsky, Callahan, Anisimov, Girardi. I have gone over this so many times. Staal was the best of the group before the injuries. He really was. Some of the younger fans here who are 18-24, really didnt see him him play before the injuries. This guy went toe to toe with Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin early on in their careers. He was a shutdown defenseman who was able to keep up and use his size and reach to almost unparalleled measures throughout the league. I have so much respect for Staal. I grew up with such disappointment in the early 2000s. The organization always chasing the “name”, spending millions on guys who were past their prime and never making the playoffs. He was the 1st jersey I bought with a name on the back. He was just a symbol of hope and change and he performed as such.

Thank you Staalsy! Thank you.
