Every draft is stacked. It’s hockey’s future.
Usually every year it’s “next years draft is even better!!!”

Haven’t seen a single post saying that about the 2021 draft until that guy posted that. All I’ve seen about the 2021 draft is tht it’s projected to be the worst draft since like 2017 or 2012.

How about that he's 27, makes almost $7MM AAV, will need what will likely be an even bigger contract in 2 years, and plays LW?
I don't want gaudreau. But I don't subscribe to the "you can't win with that type of player" mentality.

Those reasons above are totally acceptable and valid. I tend to roll my eyes at the winner comment.

Everyone is a loser until they are a winner.

Regarding Marc Staal for what it’s worth.

I was never a Staal hater. The most I’d ever really given him a hard time was that Ottawa series really with Holden when they were in trouble every shift and AV kept going to them

but this guy was a Warrior and very much the reason Pitt and Washington struggled to win more Cups than they did for many years. At his best he was a beast of a shut down dman. I think he also even now with his numbers as bad as they were was able to give tony the opportunity to settle his game down and become the player he was supposed to be. He led the charge on the PK. He was always a tough guy to play against and MEAN.

the eye injury killed him. I am convinced they should have moved him to the right side to compensate for his loss of vision. He could not accept a clean pass coming from his right to his left handed stick.

But alas he gave us some monster years and I am proud to have watched his entire career here. Wish him well hope he can grab a few more dollars before he retires. Good for him. And good fit in Detroit.

Do you know which team? My guess would be SJ. They have too much cap tied up in older players. I can't see them looking to rebuild yet, despite how bad they were this year. Dell is a UFA and Jones has been bad. They could afford Hank at 50% for 1 year. For Hank, it would be an opportunity to win a starting job with a team that went to the conference finals 2 years ago, and he is friends with Karlsson.

San Jose has checked in a few times over the last several months about Georgiev.

I would hate to swap picks with Calgary just to take Greig at 19. Sorry I know this isnt relevant to the thread but Edge mentioned a pick swap.

With those 3 signed, and Staal not traded, that would put us at 10 forwards and 6 dmen. Add Laf, and we still need at least 2 more players.

There's also the issue of the performance bonuses, which I don't have the time to explain again right now. You can search my post history to read about it.
Performance bonuses are handed out the year after for the previous year aren't they? Or are you talking about this years bonuses that count for next season, in that case i'm not sure how much $ that is.

Including Di Giuseppe, and minus 1M for Georigiev we would need 2 players. A forward and defenseman....Hajek/Miller at under a million for the defenseman, and a bottom 6 forward at less than 2M (or Krav/Barron?)

It's always funny to think about how those conversations would go.

Hey gorts...Georgiev available?

Yep

3rd?

Nope...1st.

Kthxbye

Sometimes the chats are just about that quick.

Or you have the “I’ll think about it, but not right now” type response.

It’s funny when I see the “asleep behind the wheel” comments, because honestly Gorton is one of the more diligent GMs in the league.

That’s how we end up with multiple deals with the same teams, or why the same names keeps popping up.

But the next call might be:

Hey gorts...Georgiev available?

Yep

3rd and a prospect.

Nope...1st.

And then the next conversation might be:

Hey gorts...Georgiev available?

Yep

2nd and a prospect?

Which prospect?

I’ve said this and it’s not necessarily because Georgiev is this future star far from it. I think he’s a solid backup that plays well in limited spots but also plays well coming in after sitting a while (hank can’t do this which is why he can’t be a back up)

but Put me down as unless we get a monster offer Which you could say about most guys, Georgiev is very much a part of the plan for the next few seasons minimum. I don’t think he’s being dangled at all.

fully expect to see a Shesterkin/Georgiev tandem

Keep this in mind re: goaltenders...if Lundqvist retires or is bought out (likely) and Georgiev is traded for a draft pick (possible), the Rangers can sign a veteran backup (Cam Talbot?) and be able to offer them an expansion draft protection.

It’s a lot of moving parts but it mostly hinges on an acceptable offer for Georgiev.

I have no idea what an acceptable offer for Georgiev even looks like to be honest

I’m sure the Rangers are listening on him but I think they’re blowing smoke a bit and would rather hang onto him for now

Still don't know that this has sunk in.

Marc Staal, despite his lackluster play over the last 4 years, has been an absolute warrior for this team. When I watched him on the ice, I saw a guy that wanted so desperately to play at a high level and keep up, but just couldn't anymore. It is going to be weird seeing him in another jersey.

With that being said it is worth the 2nd round pick we paid to be able to comfortably re-sign ADA and Fast.

Best of luck, Marc.
