It's a long season and I'm not too sure if Hajek can handle the rigors of a full season without showing signs of fatigue. It's probably best to give these kids a break every now and then to refresh. It's not like we are in the hunt, we still have growing pains that need to be addressed.

Quinn basically said the six best players will play so I don’t understand how that means Staal gets back in the lineup I’m confused
I am certainly not Quinn, but to me when he says the 6 best play, it is looked at as in that moment. Staal IS going to get back into the lineup. The same way that Henke IS going to start some more games. If you thought that the old guard is never getting on ice again, you were sadly mistaken. And looking at the last game, if you are being honest with your self, Hajek was pretty poor. So too was Trouba, btw, but only one plays on the left side.

If I was a betting man, I would bet that barring an injury, there is some sort of a rotation that is going to be had.

if you listen to the exchange, you will heat a question about a defensive rotation. quinns answer, " NO"

no rotation. the 6 best players will play.

if so, then that means staal sits. if he plays again, then the "6 best players" thing is a ruse.

its really, marc staal and the best 5 players. 1 better player than marc staal will not be playing because quinn wants it that way.

who gets paired with staal ? whos the lucky guy ?

Saying that 6 best will play but not naming the implies people coming in and out of the line up. So yes, it is a rotation, just not a straight forward traditional one

as much as i respect your continued protection of DQ, i think this is another example of either his not understanding the idea of "patience" and rebuilding with youth or its just further proof that hes not making the decisions re. who plays and who sits. if thats true, lets just dump him now.

removing lindgren and lias andersson for staal and McKegg is just dumb.

2 of the best games of the season followed by a stinker does not warrant reinstating the legit worst defenseman in the entire league ( corsica hockey) and removing andersson.

quinn is a complete moron.

IMO both the Staal and Andersson things are organizational issues. I don't think it's just Quinn making the decision on these guys. This is not because I'm in love with Quinn--I'm generally positive towards him but not married to him as coach. I just feel like the way he handles Andersson, a guy picked so high so recently, that has to be accepted by the organization; the Staal thing has been going on forever under different coaches, I think it's not just on them.

Who really knows, though.

I agree. Sort of. I believe that what is happening is an organizational thing in the big picture. That is Staal not being permanently benched and the general handling of Andersson. I will say that at the micro level, the handling of Andersson is an issue that I have with Quinn specifically. And the decision that Lindgren is the odd man out is also on Quinn at the micro level.

I wouldn’t sit Lindgren. The guy had a great camp, got sent down, did everything right and has played well since he was called up.

I wouldn’t sit him for a struggling veteran we all know isn’t in the top 6, just to save face. What kind of sign would that be sending to the kids who you are trying to develop?

The incentive in going down and doing things right when you probably should’ve made the team anyway is lost.

Hajek could use a night off and like others have said Skjei as well... but I have a hard time sitting him for Staal

The Staal thing isn't a Quinn issue or even an organizational issue its a just hockey issue. We're not alone in always seeming to have one or two crap players that should not be playing but are because <insert reasons that don't matter>. Coaches and GMs like "reliable players" even if the only thing they can be relied upon to be is awful. When Quinn and Staal are gone it will be a different coach and a different awful player, probably a defensive defenseman or bottom 6 forward, driving people nuts. Some fans will complain while others either don't think its a big enough problem to fix (because in todays NHL where a handful of points can mean the difference between home ice advantage in the playoffs and being a lottery team, why fix an obvious problem?) or think the crap player is great and real problem is <insert player who is not a problem, probably an offensive defensemen>. Then that crap player will retire and join the organization and advocate playing future crap players. Its a self sustaining cycle of stupidity.

Andersson? I have no idea whats going on there. The fact that they want him at center and yet don't seem to think much of him as a center is bizarre.

I would’ve preferred they waited until the moment felt a little more organic, rather than trying to shoehorn him back in.

At the same time, I don’t expect to see much improvement and kind of hope it’s used to reinforce the message that his days as a regular are over.

I’m not going to lie, I kind of hope this season serves as a motivator for Staal to walk away after the season. I know that’s easier said than done, and it’s not my money to walk away from, but I’d kind of like to wrap up this relationship without embarrassment or more frustration.

I agree with the sentiment, but am a believer in human nature. Cash is cash.

Crossing fingers he can produce to the point of moving him with a sweetener by the deadline. Otherwise, they should buy him out in the off-season.
To channel Dean Wormer......zero.....point......zero. At least as far as the possibility of moving him.

The buy out has been brought up around here. I am not so sure they can simply keep adding on dead cap space for the future. If he is clearly passed by, and that is frankly realistic as we speak, then he MAY be looking at a year in 2020-2021 where he is a 7th defenseman.

The reality is that it is just not that simple. I get the screaming and railing. But the fact is that this guy has given his hear soul and one eye to this franchise. Was a stalwart during a period that is one of the best in franchise history. A leader by deed and word. Quinn is in a very hard position here. Whatever is happening with Staal, is an organizational decision.

Staal again showing why hes over stayed his welcome.

at this point it is all about the $$ and thats it.

he does things too slowly, his hands are where pucks go to die, his ability to step up and get back isnt there. when hes in the neutral zone, hes a pylon. when hes up ice, its an odd man chance waiting to happen and when hes in the defensive zone, his only positive is his board work which is still acceptable.

hes makes his partner worse.

great guy for sure but at this point, Quinn needs to make a big boy decision and make marc staaal the 7th Dman. injuries, B2B's, nights off, etc should be the only reason to dress 18.

I agree with the last sentiment. I just also believe that it is more than just about the money. If that was it, he would not have been playing. It is very much about what he has meant to the franchise and what that entails. Again, my preference is what you name is him being a 7th defenseman at this point. I just do not think that the organizational decision is that simple.

probably right.

the girardi buyout. the shatty thing. the dead space and the bad contracts eventually come home to roost.

this is a young mans game. speed and pace defines the game today.

were stuck with him and in-between that rock and hard spot. between showing respect for a guy whos been here his whole career and tying to win games with the best 6 guys.

Infections are no joke. While likely less severe, Alex Smith had multiple surgeries because of his broken leg.

Probably will take a month, if not more to fully recover and then get into game shape.

Hopefully it's just this, because you never want to see someone have to deal with this multiple times
