:huh:Can someone please explain to me how Marc Savard didn't get any consideration, for team Canada, at all? Even at the summer selection camp(in august)...he wasn't on the 45 player list. I know he broke his foot this year. In fact..he played the entire exibition and early regular season .....on a broken foot. Until it was so swollen, and painful....proper diagnosis finally occured. Yes...he came back slowly....and went on a 6 game pointless streak(sort of to be expected with an injury like that)....but lately...he has been catching fire. And.....as usual...he is playing with no-name wingers. On a team that stresses defence, defence, defence. It seems like I'm the only one in the world....who thinks Savard gets completely disrespected here. Am I right?

Marc Savard is far from overrated around here.

I agree that he deserved consideration, but who would you remove for him? Then to take it a step further, explain how it would make the team more complete.

On a side note not finding a way to fit in Jordan Staal was probably a mistake.

he's good, but he doesnt bring anything special. He's not better offensively than the offensive guys that made the team nor defensively better than the defensive guys.

It sucks that he plays for such a stacked country, but Stevie Y and friends made the right choice. He's not elite in any one aspect of his game, he's just really good.

To above, J Staal fits the same idea, but on the defensive side. He's good, but just not great. Canada is building a team that is all-around great players. Good players are always left off.

Really? Based on Savard's play this season, he shouldn't have even come close to making this team. This is Team Canada that we're talking about, and one will only make it if they are a star. Savard is playing far from that right now.

:)I've been watching Savard play....since his day with the Oshawa Generals. This guys offensive mind, instincts, creativity, playmaking...and passing skills...are phenomenal. I honestly think...he's the best playmake/passer in the NHL. I can tell you...who I DON'T have confidence in....with team Canada. Dany Heatley, Joe Thornton......because both of these guys don't perform in the playoffs....where intensity, speed and pressure...are all '"upped" several notches. Yes..I know...they both performed well in the World Championships...but that is far less pressure than playing in the Olympics for Canada(in Canada). Plus ....all the best players in the world...weren't in the World Championships. Also....Canada has plenty of 2- way hockey players on the team. Ie: Mike Richards, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Marleau.......so why would they put on Brandon Morrow? The could easily subtract Morrow...and 1 of either M. Richards or J. Toews....For Savard. Has anyone looked at the Russian roster? There is so much "top end" offense there.....it's scary. Canada needs all the "offense" they can get. I'm flabbergasted how absolutely nobody in the Hockey world(GM's, team Canada hockey braintrust?, hockey analysts, media, fans.......mentions the snub of Savard..... for this team. Doesn't anyone know how offensively great Savard is?

If it wasn't Morrow, I would expect Carter or St. Louis before Savard, as they both play wing quite well and have more of a scoring touch.

Joe Thornton may have not proven much in the playoffs, but what has Savard proven? He's only been twice, although last year I thought he looked real good. At the end of the day, you don't keep Heatley and Thronton off this team with the chemistry they've been having this season.

We know Savard is great offensively, but the key to this team will be to keep other superstars under control. He wouldn't have beat out any of the top 3 of Crosby, Thornton or Getzlaf because they are the best 3 playmakers in the world right now.

Ugh. Sorry man, but I didn't even read your posts 'cause I was pretty sure I'd have a headache by the end of the last sentence (if you can call it that).

Please use periods, commas, or dashes before ellipses as well as paragraphs and line breaks!

Implying your post's content from the title, however, I would say what most others have said in that though he's good, he's not good enough to make an incredibly hard-to-crack Canadian Olympic roster.

We don't need a thread for every player that didn't make the team. There is a roster thread that I believe is stickied. You're more than welcome to use the thread that already exists.
