Proposal: Marc-Eduord Vlasic

Don't really know much about Bailey. What kind of player is he? What does he project to
Would love a deal around Reinhart or Pulock though

Vlasic for Bailey and Reinhart is a deal I'd make in a heartbeat. Too bad I doubt the Sharks would. SJ is my second team though, so it's a bit easier to look at this from their perspective too.

Bailey is a solid two-way center who hasn't really lived up to his potential. If he played confidently and consistently, he could probably be a very good second liner, perhaps first. But if he keeps playing the way he has, he's probably a very good third liner, decent second. He has a good shot, but he doesn't use it as much as he should, and he could use some work on his accuracy, so he's too passive. Kind of like a very poor man's Joe Thornton in that aspect. Not a bad thing, but Bailey is projecting to be what he is at this point: solid defensive forward with decent offensive upside.

For Vlasic, it would probably take Reinhart, Bailey, and another defensive prospect like Scott Mayfield. I would've said a second round pick but we don't have ours in 2015 or 16 I believe. I know you guys want a 1st round draft pick, but Reinhart is better than that at this point: a near NHL ready defenseman, mostly developed so you guys can bypass that, and the Sharks could use some defensive depth to maybe replace Hannan.

You guys would get a blue-chip prospect in Reinhart, very good two-way depth in Bailey, and a B-level defense prospect, while the Islanders get an elite defenseman about to enter his prime.

I'd imagine the possibility that SJ would ask for Reinhart, Bailey or Grabner, and a 2016 1st instead, whereas that would make me think a bit from an Isles perspective. We get an elite defenseman that Reinhart can only hope to be as good as and keep Pulock, but we don't have a 1st round pick for two seasons in a row. I'd like to think that the Isles are a young enough team to survive that though and Vlasic would put the Isles D over the top if Boychuk and Leddy stay.

It's so hard to gauge trades at this point because of the kind that NHL GMs are making these days. Personally, if I were Doug Wilson, I wouldn't make this trade if I were planning on competing for the next few seasons because of how important Vlasic is to the Sharks D and team as a whole, but if you guys are really looking to rebuild, something could work. I'm definitely not getting my hopes up though. Sorry for the long post. It really boils down to whether SJ hopes to compete for the next few years or start a rebuild.
