I take it no one listened or recalls Molson being interviewed on Melnick’s show at training camp 2017?

Molson said the org had put a plan in place after playoff loss to NYR, having allocated $ to resign Radulov & Markov, replace Emelin who they planned to expose in expansion draft w Alzner (for same AAV) and had acquired Drouin in June as an addition for offense not as a replacement for anyone. Radulov took Habs offer which was on the table from Jan, to Dallas once UFA opened to match, which they did and Markov wouldn’t accept the 1-year deal w heavy bonus

I didn't trade any firsts.

Well, you did, but it wasn't yours to begin with, but let's explore your 1sts.

Off the get go he used it to grab Alex Galchenyuk. We all, or mostly all loved it.

How'd he turn out ?

Got traded for Max Domi, who got traded (along with a 3rd) for Anderson. Josh is overpaid, but when he actually gives a f***, but isn't invested he's still a solid NHLer.

2013 Mike McCarron - you rushed him to be in the NHL because this soft ass team needed a player like that. He was traded for nothing, but he himself is looking like a solid 4th line centre

Nikita Scherbak ( it was reported the Habs liked Pastrnak, but didn't trade up for him. The only time I recall the Habs trading us in his tenure was for Brett Lernout) he was lost on waivers and now is closer to playing beer league with us than playing in the show.

2015 - Noah Juulsen. Suffered a lot of injuries, was lost on waivers and is a number 6/7dman

2016 - Mikhail Sergachev - traded for a French Canadian star! Who was underwhelming, wasn't re-signed and now seems to be doing alright in Colorado, but dealing with injuries.

2017 - Ryan Poehling - started off with a hat trick(he didn't see a second in ot despite having 3 goals) was traded along with Petry to the Pens and now seems to be a decent 4th line centre

2018 - Desperate Kotkaniemi - overpaid, 3rd line centre, but probably 4th line centre. Lost him to an offer sheet and then acquired Dvorak who, aside from his first season just has no luck being healthy and now that he is, struggles a lot offensively.

2019 - Caufield ! Habs got super lucky he's small and kept falling.

2020 - Guhle. Probably a number 3d, could be more, but that's good value at 16.

2021 - Mailloux he's doing well offensively in the A. Will be interested to see what he can be.

Let's look at the draft classes as a whole!

2012. Current NHLers ? 0

2013 Current NHLers 2 (McCarron could honestly slip out sooner rather than later)

2014 current NHLers 1, Jake Evans. Should have a few more seasons.

2015 current NHLers Juulsen I guess.

2016 Current NHLers 1 and kind of 2 with Pezzetta ?

2017 Current NHLers 2, but Poehling is closer to be out and Primeau, if he can't play better might not be one much longer.

2018 currently NHLers 3, Harris might fall out sooner rather than later.

2019 current NHLers I'll say 3. Caufield, Struble and RHP. Though RHP will probably be waiver fodder next year if not sometime this year.

2020 and 2021 while not at 5 year mark, let's just take a little peak

2020 currently have Guhle, but Dobes and Tuch should make the show and play some games at the very least.

2021 currently 0, but Mailloux has played games, along with Kapanen, but nothing showed they aren't ready. Roy is there, too ,but I don't think he's ready and despite playing be will get sent down soon.

So, 77 picks 15 players are still in the NHL.

Of those 15 players we have

3 number 4 centres(McCarron, Evans, Poehling)
2 number 6(or lower) dman. (Juulsen, Harris)
1 number 2(Maybe number 3) goalie (Primeau)
1 top 6 RW (Caufield)
1 bottom 6 winger later turned top 6 winger (Lehkonen)
1 number 1, or 2 dman (Sergachev)
1 number 2, or 3 dman (Guhle)
1 number 3, or 4 dman (Romanov)
1 number 5, or 6 dman (Struble)
2 4th line/13th (or lower) forward (Pezzetta, RHP)
1 number 3 centre (Kotkaniemi)

So, the Habs based on what we know(or pretty much certain) of the Habs draft picks by Bergevin.

1stLine LW - 1st Line C - 1st Line RW
Lehkonen - 2nd line C - Cole Caufield
3rd line LW - Kotkaniemi - 3rd Line RW
Pezzetta/RHP - Evans/Poehling/McCarron - (move one of the 3 centres, or 2 LWers here)

Sergachev - 1st pairing RD
Guhle/Romanov - 2nd pairing RD
Harris/Struble - Juulsen

Number 1 goalie
Primeau.

We'll give Bergevin Arber Xhekaj, too, so another 5/6 dman and I won't add Fournier, Verbeek, Waked, or any others.

You kept all your 1sts because you're an idiot. You had an idiot as a sidekick in that muscle dummy Timmins.

You had a stud goalie and decided to almost never try to add to the offense to help him out. You horded your picks just to produce f***ing nothing.

How anyone looks at Bergevin's body of work and thinks "hmmm you know what, I want him in my organization"

Bergevin is such a shit GM I would ask any GM I'm contemplating to hire for the position if they think Bergevin would be an asset to add. If they said yes, they're disqualified right there.

It's why I feel bad for LA fans.

No, I won't tell you how I really feel about him
good stuff , thanks

Duuuude.. you post all of these, but you left out snow angel alzner? Did it get lost?

I remember I made one with Alzner wearing our jersey, but I had replaced the Habs logo with an Easy Grip.

The 2017 offseason was of course also the Sergachev for Drouin trade with JD getting his easy peasy 6 year contract. And the Price contract. And after letting Markov AND Radu go, Berg managed to have his contending team sitting on 8-9M in cap space.

That offseason work came after his infamous 2017 trade deadline. Team needs more scoring? Well, too bad, we acquired Ott, King and Martinsen.

After that 2017-18 finished at the bottom of the league that was when Berg 100% should have been shown the door.
You can add 2015 in there when Bergevin acquired Mitchell and Flynn when we badly needed scoring to go with our stacked D and goaltending. Nobody could dive in a dumpster the way he could. He made some alright trades but most of them were lateral risk adversed trades. They never made the team better or worse. He couldn’t draft to save his life. He hit on a few at the end of his tenure in Caufield and Guhle but when your evaluating an almost 10 year window, that’s terrible. He made a great pick with Sergachev and traded him away in a politically motivated move that blew up in his face. There were years where his cap management was terrible. I don’t know how anyone can sit in here with a straight face and say he did a good job. He inherited a core that carried him his entire tenure. I give credit to Gainey for any success we had from 2012-2017. The Covid Cup run was a fluke as fun as it was. We wouldn’t have made the playoffs without the Canadian division and even if we somehow did by miracle, we definitely wouldn’t have played teams like Toronto or the Jets in the first two rounds. He was a terrible GM. It’s been three years and we’re still cleaning up the mess he left.

One day you'll convince somebody that MB was a decent/ok GM. Try again next year maybe.

I do not hate him as much as some people here. I thought he was a 50-50 GM. He was like a good plummer. Saying he was horrible would be like essentially shitting on the good moments we have had when he was there as well.

An example of that was can be resumed in the situation with Radulov: it was a great gamble signing him for a year. Good move. But it was a terrible mistake not re-signing him. That's Bergevin.

His tenure wasnt all bad he did make some good trades. It was his drafting, player development, coaching hirings and signings he was bad at. A lot of those contracts are still here and hirting the team. Now he said he never traded a 1st round pick, now thats true bit how many of those 1st round picks helped the team? Would have been better to add to the team for a playoff push instead of ott, martinsen, king types. Vanek was a good add but he fluked into that as the isles waited too long. Same with the suzuki trade he fluked into that too pacioretty nixed multiple deals to other clubs. He also wanted glass but vegas countered with suzuki. Id give him a solid C ranking overall.
Completely agree with this. Outside of the last 2 years of his tenure, the drafting was atrocious. I can't believe Timmins got a job elsewhere with that track record.

If we had just been average at drafting we would've been in the playoffs every year with a goalie like Price.

It's crazy to me that a GM that preaches drafting and development was so bad at it for so many years.

If by "won" you mean that we lost the Trade, we def won it
Subban turned into a f***ing bum who was barely a third pairing D man. Matheson is a better defenceman now than when subban was two years after the trade. Then he retired when he was still young because again he sucks. Meanwhile Weber is clapping bombs and a stud d man for years after the trade while subban retired lol pretty easy assessment unless you’re trolling
