That was a very... Andersen game in net.

Happy for Kallgren ... nice to see a guy like that come in and perform well in a tough market, who is desperate for a goalie to make saves. Not an easy situation. Hopefully he can provide some stability and install some confidence in the team's defense again. The play a lot differently when they believe in their goalie.

Wins in regulation agains Carolina and Dallas without Matthews take a lot of character. Have to give them that.

I don't know what this team is...in the last two times we've faced Buffalo we have been blown out. Last two times we faced Carolina we have had strong impressive wins. I dunno man.

Yeah the Leafs played with a lot of guts without Matthews. It helps to get solid goaltending though. Kallgren hasn't had to stand on his head, he's literally just making good saves.

The one thing I've noticed is that most players seemed a lot more physical for some reason. Clifford is making me eat major crow because he's been a big time forechecker. I hope he can keep it up.

Fred didn't suck. All 3 goals were nice. To say Fred sucked means our goals sucked. That's wrong. Mik goal nice play. Marner nice snipe. Nylander nice patience before pass.

Errr.. that first goal wasn't nice, he should have had that one. His job is to take the shot and trust that his defense has the pass, especially because they were in decent position to make a play.

The second was a nicely placed shot from Marner .. I'd have to see if Andy was off his angle on a replay.

The third was nice and a difficult one to stop but seeing Andy slide a across like that on his belly leaving the top half of the net open seemed all too familiar

Who needs Fleury when you have a future Hall of Famer and Vezina trophy winner in Kallgren?

Things have to be easier with that thug Matthews out of the lineup.
Soooo - Keefe should play his team constantly on the PK without the best goal scorer in the world while starting his AHL 3rd string goaltender ... in order to win.
I swear - only the Leafs are able to give any logic to this insane abstrusity. :loony:

Yesh. The playoffs haven't even started and I already feel worn out. :silly:

Glad to see the bolded. At this point in the season you just need guys like this to find their legs for a playoff run. Maybe Clifford's veteran presence can do that.

Hoping the same of Simmonds and Spezza. They know the grind of the regular season and I suspect they know how they can kick it up in playoff time. Question is if they have that gear anymore.

That was a good win for the boys against a tough opponent in the Canes! I was very impressed with the Mikheyev-Kampf-Engvall line, that line has really grown on me lately. They could always skate well, especially Mikheyev and create some offence on top of being responsible defensively. I've noticed though lately that they've played with some more sandpaper to their game, which has made their line even more effective.

Speaking of playing with some sandpaper, I have been very impressed with Clifford's play the last two games. He seems to be skating better, brings a lot of energy and ruggedness, is usually always in good position in his own zone, and is very effective as a net front presence, occupying the defenseman. Clifford should definitely stay in the lineup on the fourth line, at least for the time being.

Lastly, it's obviously only been 2 games, but Kallgren has looked very solid in net. The kid seems to play with so much calmness and poise, it helps the rest of the team play with much more confidence in front of him. I'm not saying that he's the solution in goal, but he's definitely earning a longer look, that's for sure. Fingers crossed that he can keep up the great goaltending.

Bro that poster was obviously being sarcastic.

I swear...

Another win, another game where the opposition had more powerplays than the Leafs. Start an investigation now, this has gone on too often.

Great game by Kallgren but the entire team played well. Even the youngsters on defence looked really good.

Maybe the Matthews suspension has pissed off the team. Looks like it has motivated the team to take an “us vs the world” approach.

Agree with your assessment. Clifford had been playing really well with Marlies. He deserved an opportunity especially since Simmonds was contributing so little.

Good game. Need to see more of Kallgren to really make a fair assessment. Looks encouraging so far. keefe needs to keep playing him now, see what they have with him.

It's amazing what goaltending can do for a team. Even missing its best player and doing what they doing. Excellent attitude last two games. Let's keep it going.

Loving Källgren kid.

The silver lining is that come playoff time, when whistles are put away, the Leafs will be used to not getting many PP chances but making the most of what they get?

:dunno:

All those defensive problems suddenly disappear when your goalie isn’t rocking a sub .900 save percentage every night.
All the goalies actually are helped to make a stop when you don't kick the puck into your own goal or three guys stand watching an opponent take an easy sitter infront of the net .. instead of hindering him from it. Here is an idea defending your net helps goaltending and has been as much of a problem the last weeks as the sieves in net. Subtracting guys like Holl or Mrazek at the trade deadline would instantly turn to a plus for our defense. Be it for a 4th. Please god have mercy. 🥺

I honestly think the Leafs are better off finishing in WC2 than top 3 in the Atlantic.

If you finish WC2, you play Carolina and go through the Metro to get to the ECF.

If you finish let's say third, you're probably facing the defending champs in the 1st round, and then Florida who is loading up and is adding Giroux as well.
