Hey guys just in case you didn't notice Guy Lafleur died.

CBC hasn't talked about it much because I assume all 3 Habs fans watching a Leafs Panthers game instead of the Habs Sens game may not have noticed either.

He was a beauty though. I hate how Montreal always got those players fr their backyard. Polack was a genius for getting that draft pick the year before.

Leafs constanlty missed out on players from Ontario and never made those types of moves to get anyone

I’m not a Tavares guy at all but I think a lot of the problem stems from Dubas and company not taking more care in building a line that suits Tavares’ skills. Give him a primary puck carrier (let’s say a Jordan Eberle) and another big body digger who can play a cycle game, and give him line mates who can do a little give and go, short distance area plays, quick cut backs and collapse to the net for dirty goals then I think we’re speaking Tavares’ language.

I just don’t think he’s a superstar who you can just throw out there and expect him to play any situation any which way. You gotta almost create a ball hockey environment where straight line skating is taken out of the equation.
I agree to the extent that he needs linemates who suit his abilities more.

Part of the problem is he’s noticeably slower than he was a few years ago. He himself hasn’t quite adapted to that issue. He still tries to pull off plays that he’s not capable of making. He’s an expert at forcing shots that get deflected out of play.

I’m of the opinion that he needs to transition to the wing now. We don’t have a capable C to replace him, but he’d probably actually slide in well next to Matthews.

That's exactly what it is. The style of hockey Tavares plays doesn't match the way the rest of the team is constructed (short of guys like Clifford and Simmonds). They either need to commit to moving him to the wing and letting him play like John Leclair, or they need to get a couple of wingers that will work with him, rather than speedsters, because he can't keep up with them. He's like JVR, in that he's not a quick strike style player, which is how most of the Leafs wingers operate.

Tavares isn’t really a difference maker. Not at his price tag. We don’t have an “elite” 1-2 punch at centre like it was supposed to be when he signed here.

Great first. Not so great second but still I don't put any goal on jack.

He'll need to come up big in the 3rd a couple times at least but I think the Leafs got it in them. Overall not a bad road game.

More pucks to the net and win more faceoffs.

Maybe a call or two .... wishful thinking.

Holl can’t be allowed to roam beyond the opposition faceoff circle. The minimal offense he generates on his adventures is not worth the coordination chaos on a likely counter rush.

That just tells me he's a player that lacks in game awareness and self control. He's going to cost the Leaf goals, and perhaps a game or two in the playoffs if he doesn't change.

The game he built isnt effective anymore. The new game is built around speed

That “elite” 1-2 punch only really existed for two seasons, and was f***ed over due to playoff format, gongshow reffing, overzealous DoPS, and a pandemic.

Ya amazing how Montreal would win the Cup then have literally the first three picks in the draft.

Should have been illegal

I don't think swindling execs who had no NHL experience and had no idea what they were doing is genius. More like taking advantage. And THAT was Pollack's primary skill; swindling expansion teams.

Fair enough then why didnt other GMs do it ?

A stanly cup team gets to pick in a very deep top 5 draft i think is genius. Very evil but genius
