Just a pre-emptive strike on the doomers - here are Engvall's PO stats over the last 3 years...0 goals in 17 GP. He played 223 minutes of playoff hockey and didn't score a single goal.

Over the same three playoffs, with more ice time, JT had exactly the same number of assists. Half of his were on the PP, while all of Engvall's were at ES.

Focusing on a single stat can be misleading

A good manager knows which staff need to be coddled and which need a kick in the ass.
Agree totally and anyone who has coached knows this. I've coached provincial volleyball players for over 30 years and I've encountered this phenomenon more than a few times. There were some star players that needed the whip on occasion and they responded by plaaying better and others that when the whip is used they'll shut down, mope, or play poorer. A good coach has to know the personalities on their team and how to get them to play their best.

I am not big JT fan and I pray he plays on the wing in the POs. Comparing the two is pretty comical though, considering JT had 7 goals and played against the big boys. QoC is a hard thing to take into account but there is a pretty huge gap between trying to score on Paul/Perry/Bogosian vs Hedman/Cirelli/Point.

Tavares has been a big let down in the POs as well, though. Please Keefe put him on the W!

Indeed. IMHO, this is a very important game tonight. NYI is a good team, and the type of team we've had trouble with in the past. Also the return of JT to the Island was the most pathetic game we've played with this core so yeah, huge game to start this last stretch of the season. Play well and win tonight would make me feel like we'll hold on the home edge against TB, maybe we're almost ready to play playoff hockey and I'll be pretty happy. Play like crap and lose on the other hand, boy oh boy with all those road game coming up and the TB game a few weeks from now looming large would not make me feel comfortable at all.

2021 playoffs - those 0 goals and 4 assists in 7 playoff games were disappointing for a 11 million dollar player to say the least.

Marner's been fantastic ever since but LOL at this dinosaur nonsense.
Mitch had a six-game pointless streak early last season, but the worst this year is a couple of one-point-in-three-games runs.

Willy is pointless in three games, with worse linemates than Mitch.

Both Matthews and JT have gone three games pointless this season.

I'm not panicking.

Agreed - I'm not comparing them, just commenting on the silliness of using a single stat, particularly from a very small sample size.

Confused on the Rielly-Gustafson pairing neither are defensive stalwarts but I guess trying to see what two puck movers together looks like?

Sample size means more, imo, when looking at stats that need context like xGF, CF% etc. For pure production, you will very rarely get a healthy sample size and I don't think that means you can't make a call with what you have. 17gp, 0GF - that's a lot of opportunity.

Not sure why you're quoting me here, I've said several times that since we lost to MTL, Marner has been excellent and I expect he will be excellent for us again in the playoffs so who's panicking? I was just calling out the dinosaur nonsense is all, Mitch is a great player but it's just LOLOLOLOL that some people seem to think that he's been a perfect player all his life and nothing he's ever done warrants any criticism whatsoever.

That's not true at all. Marner has easily been the most consistent player this season and it really isn't close.
It's pretty close actually. Nylander's been a bit off lately but that's a very short stretch of games, just like when Marner hadn't found his game yet early on was also a short stretch.

Su, but at the same time, twice as many assists at ES, with much weaker linemates.

Sorry - not meaning to quote you in particular, but just the thread.

Yeah, no panic in this corner.

I like these lines.
Something for opponents to worry about on each of the top 3 lines and when ROR comes back slot him in at 3C, bump Lafferty to the wing, McMann out (sorry) and when the playoffs start that's the type of scoring depth that is needed to win.

This is why I wanted a player like Tyler Bertuzzi, JVR, Max Domi, I LOVE the idea of Lafferty ROR and Nylander.

But not if it means Kerfoot on the top line.

Knies might make things interesting.

Here's what I am hoping for game 1:

Jarnkrok - Matthews - Marner
JT - ROR - Nylander
Bunting - Lafferty - Kampf
Knies - Acciari - Kerfoot

It is annoying that Keefe never calls out Marner or Matthews when Nylander has been the most consistent player all year.
Erm Marner had like a 25 game point streak. I don’t know about most consistent

But I do find it weird that nylander is stuck playing with junk pieces

Mcmann plays offence like an hf leaf fan would. Stand in front of the net no matter what. Doesn’t matter if it makes it a 4 on 5 you just stand there.

Lafferty is alright, but he shouldn’t be the 2nd best player on an offence line

I don’t even want to hear the HBK line experiment because that shit was so flukey it didn’t work the other cup run.
