My daughter asked me this and I still haven't been able to give her an answer .

Why is Montreal playing Carolina tonight but the Leafs vs Carolina Monday is postponed?

The Leafs game is at home. Since Canadian cities have attendance restrictions, the NHL wants to delay it for later. This is why the Leafs next two games are in Canada (Sens and Oilers).

Plus, they likely don't want players getting COVID in Canada and then having to quarantine for weeks.

That's what doesn't make sense. They can play Saturday and Wednesday but not Monday all in the same rink, is the restriction on attendance only happening Monday?

I have a good feeling this game will be played. It'll be a bit of a weird lineup but we have to adapt. It's a good excuse to give some depth pieces a look.

Hopefully the precautionary measures taken by the Sens will allow this game to take place as scheduled.

I think zero .. we should not be playing hockey with crowds if we are serious about our hospital situation .. plus who da h*ll wants to go if you can't have a beer or two and talk to a buddy
Yeah I got lucky on the rotation. I just have the postponed Carolina game.

Did they even play a game with 50% capacity with the no eating and drinking rules?

Home vs away game...

Carolina at Toronto ... Cancelled
vs
Montreal at Carolina.. To be played.

I read somewhere, but I haven't checked it out but it said Montreal vs Carolina was originally scheduled for Montreal but Habs agreed to give up a home game to play it on the road in Carolina instead, and get it made up later on in Montreal ... Same for the As well, the Bruins-Canadiens game slated for Jan. 12, at Montreal’s Bell Centre is being moved to Boston. The league says a make-up home date in Montreal will be announced at a later date.

The league is already talking about rescheduling .....

Ottawa ..
Fri, Dec 31vs Pittsburgh Postponed

"Two Winnipeg Jets’ home games – Jan. 8 vs. Seattle and Jan. 10 vs. Minnesota – will also be rescheduled, as will the New Year’s Eve games featuring the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Ottawa Senators.

If they postponed the Sens game the night before in Ottawa are we sure Sens are playing the following day in Toronto with 100% certainty?

Are you saying US teams aren't allowed in Canada?

I read the same thing ... something about the league not wanting games to be played if attendance is limited to 0 or near 0

Not looking to start a covid debate but can you link me to some data showing me that we have / will have / could have a hospital situation

I get that but they are playing the game before and after which is why it's confusing.

Its about attendance and Canadian health rules apparently.

So Montreal if they are playing a USA opponent at home... They have agreed to play the game in the USA now instead and then get a future game against the same team at home when Covid restrictions might be lessened to allow for more fans to attend CDN home game arenas.

The Carolina home game doesn't have capacity restrictions. The Montreal home game does I guess
Leafs have 3 home games in a row.
Saturday vs Ottawa - ok
Monday vs Carolina - postponed
Wednesday vs Edmonton - ok

Trying to figure out why the middle one is postponed. I'm guessing US restriction on coming to Canada but haven't seen that confirmed.

Ah okay - not sure about that

Honestly, I don't care about Montreal. What they are doing doesn't apply to what is happening here, that I can see anyway.
