So far this season Toronto has taken the third most penalties in the NHL which is currently at 42 and they are averaging the sixth-most penalties per game at 10:33, plus I'm sure those numbers went up because of those questionable calls on Kerfoot.

Leafs probably rank #1 in bullshit calls too.

You know it's bad when notorious leaf haters on hfboards and the media call bs.
That penalty against Muzzin when they lost to Edmonton because the Oilers scored on that ensuing power play still makes me frustrated, because the replay clearly showed it was Kailer Yamamoto who tripped Dominik Kahun.

If it's possible, I'd to see the numbers on penalties when ahead or tied in a game vs when trailing. You'd think dominating the play and the scoreboard would lead to PP's as the opposition struggles to defend. Yet that seems to be when the Leafs receive their penalties, and they seem to receive their PPs when they are tied or behind.

Since we signed Tavares we've been one of the worst teams at drawing penalties. It's been going on for years now and I wouldn't say teams play clean games us that often.

They put their whistles away for teams that play us and its been happening for years now. I remember the game last year where Wilson almost busted two guys knees and came away with 0 penalty minutes that game.

As others have said, for a team that has the puck a lot we don't get nearly enough of them called.

Anyone have numbers on how many penalties we have drawn?

I know there have been a few weak ones we have benefitted from but doesn't seem like nearly so many borderline calls. The completely botched 3rd period call on Kahun was actually the difference in a game as well.

Careless by the refs maybe.

a -11 call differential, among the very lowest in the league, is an absolute joke this season when you consider the abuse Matthews takes.

disgusting performance by the Weasel's Parity Patrol last night.

I thought the refs would change their attitude towards us after we made the Kadri blood sacrifice, but I guess not.

There should be an advanced stat for bs calls against. Of course, the NHL would come down on any legit source publishing it.
So there are 34 refs in the league and our division will be cycling through the same 11. Graham Skilliter and Chris Schenkler have zero playoff games between them, surprise surprise. The 2 slashing calls to Kerfoot and the interference call on Holl were egregious. The call on Bear was the same but the game had been turned over by then regardless. Slashing on the hand has been a problem, so now you're going to call every time a stick touches a guy's glove? You could make that call 100 times in any game, so you're going to "weaponize" it to turn a dull 2-0 game around? Do they know the difference between a slash and completely incidental contact. Are cross-checks to the back a problem, not yet I guess. What a mess, why does this league always look so incompetent?

Feel good for Kadri though.

I predicted he wouldn't be treated like crap by the refs once he left and we wouldn't hear a peep about the supposed "dirtiest player in the NHL" anymore.

Someone should do some tallies of Canadian vs American teams on penalty calls. Maybe do an analysis on calls considered weak to strong whistle calls against Canadian teams. I wouldn't be surprised if Canadian teams have a surprised amount of calls against them vs their American counter parts.

In the 2018-19 Season which was Tavares first year in Toronto, the Leafs ranked 30/31 teams in total power play time. Only Dallas was behind them.

Last season Toronto ranked 27th.

So far this season they are ranked 20th.

No paying fans in the stands, I wonder what the fine is for pulling the players off the ice in a forfeit/protest. Probably peanuts for MLSE. Would get the league's attention that's for sure.

This is assuming 1) the league turns a blind eye to a formal complaint and 2) another embarrassing display of officiating rivalling Thursday night's debacle becomes a pattern (ie. occurs 2 more times in the next few weeks - official complaint lodged after next occurrence).

Go for it, let us know the result.

This has been happening since Nov. after we signed Tavares. Our PP was Annihilating teams, and the league decided to just stop giving us calls because we were destroying teams with skill/PP chances. We had a ridiculous PP percent and PP per game, which were legit penalties, but for some reason :sarcasm: the league deemed it was unfair and since then stopped making calls because games would not be close at all.
