Lots of talk on these boards on who is to blame for the Leafs failures in regards to the core 4 (or 5 if you count Reilly) over the last 9 years, or (insert player name) from the team.

However, the failures of the team goes deeper and this is on management as well. We all know there will be some changes to the roster, but what about the management team?

Here is the management team on the Leafs site:

Board of Directors

Management Team

It has been known the Board of Directors have had input into hockey operations in the past. After all, they review the costs/benefits for MLS&E shareholders. Who of these directors should be held accountable for these failures?

Then you have the Manage Team, some that have been with the organization for awhile.

We know Shanahan is at the top of blame, but what about the rest of the Operations team? Snapshot of operations and length of tenure from above link:

MAPLE LEAFS FRONT OFFICE & HOCKEY OPERATIONS

President & Alternate Governor | Brendan Shanahan - 11 years

General Manager | Brad Treliving - 2 years

Special Advisor to the General Manager | Shane Doan - 2 years

Assistant General Manager | Brandon Pridham - 11 years

Assistant General Manager, Player Personnel | Derek Clancey - 2 years

Assistant General Manager, Player Development | Dr. Hayley Wickenheiser - 7 years

Assistant General Manager, Hockey Research & Development | Darryl Metcalf - 11 years

Assistant General Manager, Minor League Ops & GM, Toronto Marlies | Ryan Hardy - 4 years

Senior Advisor, Player Personnel | Dave Morrison - 21 years

Director, Amateur Scouting | Mark Leach - 1 year

Director, Hockey and Scouting Operations | Reid Mitchell - 26 years

Director, Goaltending Development and Scouting | Curtis McElhinney - 2 years

Director, Team Operations | Brad Lynn - 17 years

Director, Hockey Operations & Administration | Leanne Hederson - 7 years

Director, Development Operations & Analysis | Will Sibley - 8 years

Director, Team Security | Steven Walker - 6 years

These are the main managers and I haven’t included some of the Leafs operations personnel, but look at the link and tell us who should stay or go to change the “culture” of this team?

Changing the President probably means Treliving won't be far behind out the door because they usually want their guy. Maybe Treliving gets pushed to the President spot and he gets his own guy to do the GM day to day duties? Someone like Pridham maybe?

Mark Leach just got hired and has a very good scouting history. He's probably going to stick around for a bit.

I'm not sure what else really needs to be changed in that aspect that would make much of an immediate difference. They all have shelf life though so it's probably time to change some of them up regardless.

I haven't heard much on the management changes other than Shanahan taking over the presidents role on Long Island with Doan following him there in an unknown role.

It's clearly time for Shanahan to depart the Leafs.

I read (probably from Mirtle) some time ago that Treliving would be in line for the President Role or perhaps Senior VP + GM role (if Pelley determines the president role is no longer required). Negotiaion I guess if he plays both roles or just one and gets to bring in his own GM.

It really is unfortunate we wasted all those years with Dubas. That was a massive mistake imo.

What are the NHL’s Top 10 front offices? Here’s how 40 executives voted

This article is from 2024, but just shows what executives think about other front offices across the NHL. The Leafs were 23rd on the list even with years of getting into the playoffs.

Whoever becomes head decision maker of hockey operations should scour the league for the best person for each role. Flex the financial muscle of the organization and get rid of the dead weight of personnel from the last 7+ years.

Looking at the tenured people on the original list is a start for replacement.

Shanahan not expected to speak at tomorrow's end of season media availability.

Been suggested that the decision to move on from Shanahan has already been made, and this would seem to confirm that.

McElhinney definitely stays. From what I've read, he was the one who advocated heavily for Stolarz and that turned out to be a great signing. He has earned some more time in the position.

I wouldn’t mind seeing if Bryan McCabe wants a promotion. Director of player personnel on the Florida Panthers.
