Leafs have downplayed Matthews injuries in the past.
I know, that's what makes this annoying. They played this day to day "he's feeling good but we're just being cautious" BS while he was out almost 3 weeks with his past injuries.

Anddddd no interest in watching tonight. No Matthews makes this game pointless in my eyes
I'm very interested myself if Campbell is the starter. How Campbell plays is the biggest question mark right now that has an impact on our playoff hopes, whereas how many goals Matthews scores is completely irrelevant in that regard.

Home ice. Marner going for 100 points. Continuing to play well without Matthews. Seeing Campbell continue to find his form in time for the playoffs hopefully. Even Engvall and Mik have been must see lately imo.

To each their own but I'm sure not missing this one.

Really??
The biggest issue with this team is whether Campbell can keep it together. I would think any Leaf fan would be interested in watching that play out.

My interest in this team tanks big time with no Matthews.

I'll have the game on in the background while I chase around the kiddo, but like other posters are saying, there's just something exciting watching Matthews. No denying that.

Also, we're still trying to get home ice advantage. I certainly don't consider this a mean nothing game.

exactly!!

and one of those times... idk which season it was, 2nd or 3rd, he was just not looking himself even when he got back. No 200ft game, more like a pure sniper. and it turned out the injury affected his back which affected his skating which made it hard for him to do the backchecking and board work and turnovers he's amazing at.

Not me. I'm assuming that Matthews will be ready to go when the playoffs start. If Campbell wasn't such a huge question mark, I probably wouldn't be that interested either, I might be like wake me up when the playoffs start. As it is though, I'm VERY interested to see how Jack looks.

Home ice isn't locked up yet either. Far less important but still, far from irrelevant.

GLG!!

The only interest in this game for me would be for home ice advantage. I normally watch every Leafs game cause that's just how I do it. Since it's against Philly without Matthews, it's going to be a snoozefest like the game against the Islanders was.

I'm not really sure I am buying into this whole minor injury bit with Matthews. If it was nothing, they'd have him in the line-up to give him a chance to help win home ice advantage. It's not even about his individualistic goals, but team goals.

Then again, it's Philly, this should be a no-brainer low effort win.

I hope I'm wrong about the severity of Matthews' injury. I've just heard this song and dance before with him and minor injury turned into miss 3-4 weeks straight.

Toronto isn't ever allowed to have nice things.

Bad enough going into a series against Tampa Bay with severely questionable goaltending, but now a question mark looms on our top player. Yes, I know Marner is as equally good and valuable in his own right, but still.

I’m more a crest on the front than the name on the back type of fan. I will certainly miss watching Matthews though but I’ll still watch

Matthews is joining the team on the road trip

This is actually pretty interesting because moving Kerfoot to C would pretty much have to mean Kampf moving down a line. It may also mean that they think Kase is coming back......or maybe that Blackwell deserves a shot on a scoring line.

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Mikheyev-Tavares-Kase/Blackwell
Engvall-Kerfoot-Nylander
XXXXX-Kampf-XXXXX

with XXXX = Kase/Blackwell/Spezza/Simmonds/Clifford/Robertson/Abbruzzese/Steeves/Anderson

if it's mainly the Kerf-Willy combo he wants to reunite then he could also end up moving Engvall to that Tavares line, and having a Kerfoot-Kampf-Nylander or a Nylander-Kerfoot-Kase/Blackwell 3rd line.

IMO i like the idea of moving Kampf down a line - i think he'd be an ultra good 4th line C and give that line usefulness no matter who is on the wings, and there's no doubt that he's the least offensively talented of all our forwards, so while he's not a liability on the 3rd line it's hard for that line to ever be a true strength.

but man if we can get that Kerfoot-Willy magic going again from the playoffs, but have that be our 3rd line this time instead of our 2nd line, then we are looking pretty stacked.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep JT and Nylander apart

PUT Kerfoot-Nylander together!

I don’t see how home ice advantage is that relevant against TB. Last season they took out Florida and Carolina without home ice. The Leafs will get home ice advantage, I am not even worried about that, but I don’t think it’s all the meaningful.

Isles disagree and so do I. Gimme home ice any day of the week. Soup is not outgoalieing (is that even a word ??) Vasi in game #7 on the road IMO.

Agreed. Some of these posts are just confusing. We have another player closing in on 100 points. This has never happened on the Leafs. Campbell trying to find his form etc etc It amazes me how many posts I’m reading with people saying they won’t watch because matthews is out.

A good move and like I said at start of year it would occur for playoffs .. Keefer was saying he needs 3 productive lines running in playoffs
Bunting Matty Mitch
Mik JT Wayner
Engval Kerfoot Willy
Cliffy Kamf Blackwell
I don't think Spezza or Kase are gonna play
