Mantha at $2.9m: 24 points in 45 games, +6 on a dreadful team. UFA after this year.

And

Lindgren at $1.1m: .912 SP in 22 games. Has played by a number one at times this year, again, on a dreadful team. UFA after 2025.

These are the Capitals two best assets.

Mantha is a hard one cause he has bounced back but also struggled for a while too

Still probably gets a 3rd

Lindgren would get more but I’d keep him

Mantha’s value is probably only a 2nd or 3rd and would be such a solid pickup for most teams

He’s near the top of the league in goals/60 and it’s all even strength. He’s a nice depth scoring addition that can be had for not much at all…

A solid Moneyball target if you will

No reason to retain on Mantha. He should be a worthy trade asset without retention. Capitals can use that retention slot elsewhere (namely to play facilitator for other team's trades).

90% of contenders can't fit that whole cap hit even with accrued cap space at the deadline. The retention wouldn't even be a question of value it's probably just necessary to move him

For the right price I’d take him on the Jets to add a bit more scoring ability to the bottom 6

who has $3M in space for Mantha to take him on?

he is paid more than his cap hit. to send him through a 3rd team will cost something.
Wadshington likely needs to take a contract back.
