While it's not surprising to see a team like the Washington Capitals at the top of the Metro, it's pretty amazing that they've only lost 39 man-games to injury throughout the year. On the flip side the Vancouver Canucks have lost 310 man-games, though they were probably not going to make the playoffs even if they were healthy.

Which team has been the most impressive this year despite their injuries?

Which team is the most likely to be exposed if injuries start to pile up?

The attachment is the graph showing man-games lost as of March 11th, 2017

It is Pittsburgh 'winning' this award yet again by a country mile.

The Pens have to have missed double the number of man games lost to significant players over the last seven or eight years than the next three teams combined. Almost every year they lead this list, and not by a small margin.

So goalies are excluded, injured players are excluded ?what? ... that's a strange chart. MacArthur isn't in the same boat as Savard, Bolland and Pronger. Anderson missed games, is that not the crux of the matter here?

I get that there is more than the graph shows particularly in Ottawa's case because they have 2 special cases. Yes MacArthur isn't technically on LTIR but he hasn't played an NHL game in more than 2 years so I doubt he was included.

Again the graph shows man games lost to injuries only and in Anderson's case he left the team to be with his wife, not because he was hurt.

Dallas' number is incorrect because they've lost at least 240 games(and likely more). Unless they aren't counting Janmark's 68 missed games(which they should unless they're using flawed criteria).

It probably doesn't count either. Some don't include guys if they don't play all year and Anderson wasn't injured.

This exactly.

It's unreal Pittsburgh might win the division with the man game lost to important players this season. Streit got hurt tonight so we are down 8 players(atm) LMAO, why must the Pens pay in blood after every cup win.

It is seriously nuts how this team year in year out is near the top of both the overall standings while at the same time being almost every year since 2009 the most injured team in the NHL. It is not a formula I would recommend but it is amazing that they can pull it off.

every single ****ing season

the pens really shouldn't have built their arena on an abandoned hospital...

I think what's also impressive (and this is coming from a Pens fan) is that PIT is tied with them in the Metro despite going through a bunch of injuries to key players. Lost to Calgary tonight in a SO in an extremely entertaining game, despite missing 7 regulars from the lineup.

Edit, I see a couple others beat me to the punch.

This is the graph of the most injured NHL teams from 2009 to 2016. It isn't completely visible , but one thing is clear - there is one team that is "above" everyone else, despite winning the cup in that span, well actually two.

I'm guessing the list doesn't include games lost for players who had yet to dress during the season. So, games missed by players who were injured during the preseason--like MacArthur in Ottawa or Huberdeau in Florida--don't show up on the tally.

I feel terrible for Streit, but the bold in reply to mentioning Streit was just hilarious. Assuming that is where he was actually hit, our angles for the Flames limited it to us knowing it was midsection but nothing specific, but midsection and being told to leave the building concerns me it might be a ruptured testicle.

So, since 2009-10 Chicago has among the fewest man-games lost to injury, among the most wins, the most cups, and probably have the fewest hits in the league. I wonder what the correlation is between man games lost and number of hits (given) is.
