Is there a case to be made for him at LW?

He has two years (1980 and 1981) where he is listed as a LW in the ASTs. In those years, he was 1st and 4th in MVP voting. I know that the majority of his success (particularly internationally) was done at right wing, but is this enough to consider him a RW/LW? Others have been granted dual positions with less to substantiate it.

Do we know for a fact the source listing the all stars as LW, C, RW is correct and the one listing them as Fs is wrong? I considered using Starshinov as a LW two drafts ago based on the same thing and nobody bought it

Mikhailov is the RW on the 1980 AST, so for at least that season, there is some merit to this claim. Although, it's also possible that everyone else at LW was so much worse, that they just gave Makarov the AST anyway.

It's possible. In 1979, Makarov is listed as an "All Star LW" without being top 10 in scoring. Either the source is wrong (which is always possible; it's not like the Soviets celebrated individual achievements) or it does lend some credence to the LW/C/RW split.

I think it's worth looking into either way. I don't know how much value a RW/LW Makarov really has over just a RW Makarov, but it's interesting nonetheless.
