How's the value here? Can it be modified to make the deal work for both teams?

Edler
(Chaput?)

for

MacDonald
Lehtera
19th overall pick

Vancouver covets the pick and has the cap space to pay Lehtera this year and MacDonald one year longer than they were paying Edler.

Philly covets the cap space and Edler expiring one year earlier than MacDonald.

Philly has a shit-ton of cap space. They're not making moves centered around a cap dump. They have no problem eating MacDonald's contract for two more seasons and Lehtera's is up after this season.

This sounds like a bait and switch offer at the car dealership where they have a BOGO free on cars that they hope just gets off the lot..

The Flyers wouldn't do this. They have no urgent need to drop cap, as a matter of fact they will have more cap this offseason than they've had in a decade.

Hextall loves his draft picks to much to trade a first to get rid of MacDonald and Lehtera. Lehtera only has one year left, and we don't have any players expecting big raises until next offseason. If anything I could see Hextall using some of our available cap space to take on salary for draft picks.

Lastly Hextall and Hakstol both believe Macdonald is a solid defensemen. So there is no way they would dump him this year unless we signed tons of free agents, which likely wont happen. He is overpaid, but he is also a part of the team's leadership. He shares an "A" with Filpula.

The flyers have like 18 million in cap space. Id like to get rid of MacDonald just so our idiot coach doesnt continue to play him top pair minutes but Tanev's injury history scares me. He's surely worth at least the 19th, and he is the type of d-man we need, especially with Morin out til like February now.

Lehtera's cap is a non issue for us.

Yeah, not happening. We don't need to lose a solid pick for cap dumps. If Hexy gets the guy he wants at #14, he can trade the #19 for a couple other picks later in first/early 2nd. That would be better value than Edler short term. Lehtera is slow, but he actually didn't play that badly in the playoffs, compared to others. Now, if you'll take Weise, we can talk. LOL!

I can't say "Yes" to it because frankly, I don't think we could possibly use all of that cap space without screwing ourselves.

If you wanted to take just McDonald for a lesser pick, then I'm in.
